Long time away

So it has been a while since I have posted. I was at an awesome military training school learning a lot of really cool things. I was able to shoot over 2000 rounds with an M4 and M9. Shooting full auto was quite a treat and really shows how awesome an AR can be.

I just checked into a new command and will be deploying to Bahrain for 6 months starting July 1st which basically means I lost a hunting season. My crossbow budget is effectively 0 dollars now.

I did purchase a Thunderbeast 30p-1 suppressor and have a custom 300 blackout and 223 being built as we speak. I knew that training would cost me big time.

I am still reading and I see the same old stuff is happening. Pin buying and selling, geekster rocking out arrow testing and Moon doing his shorty thing. Oh let’s not forget Wyvern rocking out bows with his giveaway and Swamp doing some crazy stuff way up North.

I will be reading and will try to post but I am a not depressed, but knowing I can’t buy or test crossbow stuff the next 6 months is keeping off the forum. I look forward to reading great reviews and seeing some awesome trophies this year.

Who would like the rack of guns we had at the training. 62 M4s on the rack fully auto capable, wonder how that is worth.

Just to let everyone know I now have some awesome green camo now instead of that awful blue crap.

Does carbon arrow spine deteariate over time?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Recently my buddy had some trouble getting good arrow flight with his broad heads. Our local dealer recommended trying the broad head on a new arrow shaft. Same brand, same size and length, same everything but one arrow had seen many years of target shooting and the other was new. The new arrow corrected the problem but I’m wondering why. Has anyone noticed a problem with carbon arrows after thousands of shots. A loss of spine or consistency?
Thanks for any insight.

First time shooting sightless

Hello everyone! I’m still new here. I used to shoot a 45# Bear recurve similar to this one, but not exactly(it was like 12 years ago…). I became extremely proficient over the course of a long summer in the back yard, putting 4 arrow groupings in a soda can hung in the middle of a bail of straw at 35 yards. Thing was, I always used a set of sights(15yds, 25yds, 35yds).

Now recently I have gotten back into the hobby. I found a cheap 40# PSE Stalker. I’m honestly not as fond of the takedown design as I was with the solid one piece design of my old bow, but it seems to shoot well, so it will be a great starter. This time around I am teaching myself to shoot sightless, and what is happening seems very weird…

At 15 yards, I HAVE TO resort to 3U, instead of split finger, just to have the target inside my sight-view(I guess thats what it’s called). If I try to shoot split finger, then the target is behind the upper limb. And the really weird part is, whether I shoot from 15, 25, or 35 yards, I always have to aim the EXACT same way. If I adjust for longer distance, I overshoot. So every shot I take at any of those distances, the tip of my arrow is the same "gap" under the target to hit.

My best guess is either I have some mystical arrows with a wonderfully flat trajectory, or else I am minutely adjusting my draw length without realizing it(instinctively??). Any ideas or tips?

***BTW I read of this forum a tip about angling your fingers down 30 degrees when you shoot 3U, and WOW that works great.

First time elk hunter advice

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I am in the process of planning an elk hunting trip for next September, I’ve been doing as much research as possible since last November. I really want to do it the right way, and be as prepared as possible for dealing with an entirely new environment. I’ve been bow hunting since I was 12, I’m 26 now, so I’m experienced with bowhunting, but I know that the high country and mountains are a whole different world from the river bottoms and food plots I hunt here in Iowa. I am approaching this process with a TON of RESPECT, when I show up in the mountains with only my bow and a backpack I want to be as prepared as possible.

I’ve been doing a lot of research on gear, and I have a final pack list put together, if any of you want to take a look at it let me know, I’d appreciate any feed back I could get. What I really want to get out of this hunt is a wilderness experience, it’s really important to me that the hunt is DIY on public land, I’m not interested in doing a drop camp or having any guides. I’m mainly looking at Colorado because of all the OTC units, and I’m willing to work to find elk. I’m in good shape, I work out 6 days a week, but the idea of packing a mature elk out on my back 10 miles in sounds unrealistic. My questions are, how far do you really need to hike in (especially in wilderness areas) to get away from the pressure, but not be so far in that packing out an elk seems impossible? If I’m lucky and fortunate enough to get an elk, do you guys have any advice on meat care, the best ways to keep it cool and clean etc.? And if you guys just have any tips or advice in general for a first time elk hunter that might make the overall experience more enjoyable/rewarding I’d love to hear from you, also if there are any books, videos, websites, gear, or anything else that you think would help me out please let me know

I appreciate all the feedback, you guys on AT are AWESOME, thanks in advance! AND GOOD LUCK THIS FALL!!!

Ryan
