Outdoor Life: for Hunting bow, no wrist sling or stabilizer -what do you think?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

In an article in the new Outdoor Life it describes how to pare down a bow’s accessories to the absolute bare necessities for hunting. They say get rid of a wrist sling because it’s for a better grip and don’t use a stabilizer. I’m pretty sure they are talking about stand hunters who normally don’t shoot past 30 yards. I’m sure a plains hunter who may take shots out to 70 yards or more may definitely want a long stabilizer.

Since I added a Bowstix Bipod to my bow (which I love), I have not put my 8" PSE stabilizer back on. The bow is just as accurate without it. The only reason I had the stabilizer, which was just really a dampener at that length, was to keep my wrist sling on.

I thought a wrist sling was so you didn’t drop your bow, not for a better grip. So which is correct, or is it for both those reasons?

What do you think about this article?

I made my own bow wrist sling. Made it out of 550 paracord and some scrap leather a got from a friend. It was fall come and neon orange camo and I think it ended up sweet looking. ImageUploadedByTapatalk1375382223.892281.jpg

sling plate and modified quiver

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I picked up a 2004 xtec from my buddy. And immediately started to upgrade and modify accessories.

I have an excess of 3/8 inch polycarbonate and started brainstorming ways to use it on my bow. It is light and extremely strong. My first project was to build a sling plate. I like the look and it works perfectly. cut and carved with a dremel tool and sprayed with rubber.
Next I decided that 3 arrows were sufficient and modified the existing hoyt 6 arrow quiver to hold 3. I removed 3/4 of an inch from the center of the hood and super glued it back together then used wood putty to seal up any small gaps at the seam that would show through the paint. next I cut the lower aluminum part of the quiver with the dremel and rounded out my rough cut on a bench grinder, followed up by sand paper to finish smooth it. I sprayed the hood with the rubber and the aluminum brackets with satin black.
