Your packin’ Stand setup; What? Why? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

So lets say you are packing in a stand a mile or more.

What are you using….pics and weights listed if possible….and why do you use that over something else?

I’ve been using 2 setups;
1) A Lone Wolf alpha with 3 or 4 sticks . its 18-19#.

2) Saddle….its right about 10# with 2 sticks. I tried the Jim Stepps….but like the Hawk sticks better. Most times its worth bringing 3 steps.

I need to work on the saddle though- more padding….I start cramping up in it after a couple hours I can’t stay comfortable.

The only pics I have are while in the tree.

Hunting setup thoughts? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I have two Hoyts(Defiant Turbo and HyperForce). I will have them both set up with ripcord code red rest, 5 pin MBG Ascent Verdicts, Draw Length 27" set at 68 pounds. I plan on shooting 100 grain Ironwill solid heads. Arrows will be Easton Axis 5mm 340. Question is do I use the Easton HIT inserts or the ironwill HIT inserts? Do you think I would benefit at all from using their impact collars? Or would I be better off using the Easton Axis FMJ 5mm? I plan on hunting deer and elk. Thanks.

Better setup for Axis arrow #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’m ordering some new arrows. Looking at the Axis. I want a 420-440 grain finished. Would the better build be a 100g point with a 50gr insert or standard inserts with a 125g head? One comes in around 425 and the other 440ish. Will be hunting everything with this arrow. Thanks in advance

Help Me Build My First Non-Hunting Setup #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve loved archery for a long time, and I figure after 30 years I’ll actually branch out from practice and hunting to punch some paper and foam. In that vein I just ordered my first more "targetish" and first non-Mathews bow in 20 years…. a Bowtech Reckoning. I’m going to see if I can find a spot league for this winter to try my hand at indoor, which I’ve never done before. I shot a lot of 3d in high school, but as a traditional shooter. I’ve shot some random ones since, but nothing consistent and just used my primary hunting bow. I am really wanting to make it a regular thing now, and want to build a bow tailored more to that.

I’ve got a rest picked out, Hamskea Trinity Pro… have the hybrid hunter on my Vertix and love it.

For a peep was going to go with the 1/4 Specialty archery peep with several apertures.

I’m unsure of stabilizers, for ASA I’ll be shooting bow novice so a tad limited there. However, I would like to shoot some spots this winter…. so kinda torn on where to start.

Then the sight… torn here also. I’m considering: Spot Hogg Hogg Father, Axcel Accutouch, and CBE Vertex.

The SH is tough as nails doubles as durable enough for hunting, can accommodate multiple scopes, and has the ability to click between marks (micro elevation). The Axcel accepts multiple scopes, also tough, but doesn’t have clicks for micro elevation adjustments. The Vertex is a pure target sight, but also more expensive up front, and I’d probably never haul it hunting in a pinch.

I like my SH, but they are heavy, and I’m building this bow for long bomb shooting… and that weight extended out and high on the riser seems less than ideal, and there the Axcel has the advantage. What the Axcel lacks… is the ability to do clicks of elevation.

… for release, just sticking with what I shoot now, Carter Evolution +…

So for those of you that have done the above activities for a while, any thoughts on the gear I’m contemplating or have suggestions for anything I may not have considered?

Carbon Air 34 Setup help #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I just bought a pse carbon air 34. I really like the bow but have never owned a pse before.
1:As far as tuning goes will tuning be the same as it was on my halon since they are both dual cam sytems. For example will adding or removing twist to the string or cables have the same effect on the bow.
2:Also my rest needs to be really close to the riser to get a good paper or bare shaft tune are there shims that I can switch around similar to the top hats on my mathews? I would like to get my center shot closer to spec.
3: Is there any adjustablity in the cable guard? It is really close to my arrow like 1/16", or is that normal?
Thanks for any help .

New heavier arrow setup #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

After a few months of reading about heavier Arrow setups and the benefits they provide, I decided to hop on. I was previously shooting RIP TKO 350’s that were around 400gr with a 100gr tip. I liked them but they were awfully light and I was never crazy about the outserts.

Now, I switched to 300 spine Axis (10.7gpi), 50gr Brass HIT, and 1” Footers made by Elk River Archery. Around 29” with 100gr tip puts me just shy of 500gr. The footers weigh 12gr and every single one of them was within .1gr of one another. The guys at Elk River Archery were great to deal with on Facebook and would highly recommend the footers. They all spin perfectly. I upsized my field tips to 5/16th and the fit could not better.

HOYT Compound Setup #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hi People, I have just made the transition from recurve to compound. Well i say transition but the truth is i will shoot both.

Im learning lots about Compound setup and have a question that i’m unable to answer from looking online.

My new compound is the HOYT Prevail 37X if this is relevant.
I understand that all compounds have ‘Cam lean’ due to their design so with this in mind do you have what in the recurve world is known as ‘Center Shot’ from the center of the riser?

Assuming the string / cables on my bow are set correctly, and the cams and associated fixing are all working correctly should the string sit in the center of the riser?

I understand that cables and string, cable yolks, cam spacers etc… can be adjusted but is the aim of adjustment to get ‘Center Shot’?

Please be gentle with your replies…

Thank you.

Prime Centergy initial set-up #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Just took possession of a Prime Centergy. Not my first Prime, but I am having a few set up issues right out of the gate.

1)I understand to time the cams, the stops need to be set all the way to the back position. When I do this on the Centergy, the stops still don’t quite touch after the cam rolls over and it is at full draw. I really have to pull into the back wall to get the stops to set but it actually feels like it’s at full draw about 1/8" off the stops. Is this normal? My Rival and Alloy never did this.

2)The ATA of the bow is at 33.5" but the manual says it should be 33.25". That is a ton of slack to take up in the cables from my experience. Anyone else finding their numbers off by this much or is it just my bow?
