Crash course on 1st, 2nd and 3rd axis setting #archery

OK, I spent the majority of the day yesterday setting up my new Site and scope for my target set-up. Here’s what I learned….please correct me where I’m wrong!
Thank you to YouTuber Tyler, the Antler Geek for demonstrating how to make the low-cost, yet effective bow level you’ll see (and probably laugh at) in my photos.

OK, 1st Axis is the forward and back tilt/rotation of the site’s elevation bar:

Most sites don’t have an adjustment for this and to be honest, errors won’t be significant since your site settings will correct for this. I supposed you’d have to add shims to correct for this. Most instructional articles and videos just just touch on what this axis is and just move on. Not being perfectly level in the 1st axis WILL NOT COST YOU ANY LEFT/RIGHT ERRORS.

2nd Axis: THIS IS THE CRITICAL ONE, especially if you have an adjustable site that moves up and down an elevation bar (ie. a target archer). It’s the left and right tilt of your elevation bar.

Although most modern sites have an adjustment screw(s) for "2nd axis" of the scope, it’s the ELEVATION BAR that needs to be made level to the bow riser. You can use your site’s 2nd axis adjustment to make the scope bubble perfectly centered and perpendicular to the riser, but if your elevation bar isn’t level, as you move the scope up or down that bubble will move from left to right or vice versa depending on which way your elevation bar is tilted. So I leveled the elevation bar first, then set the scope tilt and I verified the level elevation bar by comparing the bubble position in the high and low extreme positions of the scope along the site elevation bar.

If your elevation bar is not level, this will CAUSE NOTICEABLE ERRORS IN LEFT AND RIGHT IMPACT as you go from short to long distances. This is why your left-right arrow rest position (ie. walk back tuning) is set WITHOUT MOVING THE SITE.

3rd Axis: not significant for target shooters who shoot targets on a level surface. Significant only when there are big changes in the up and down tilting of your bow such as when shooting up or downhill on a field or 3D course.

You can set this by watching your bubble level with a level on your riser and see if it changes when drawing your bow on a level shot and then a downward shot. You can do this upward too, but it’s more risking if you’re doing this in your backyard!!

I’ve set up a bunch of rests but they all have been rests that fall behind the shelf. Is it necessary to have the LD smack on to the shelf like I have seen them setup for years?

If it doesn’t fall onto the shelf with a rubber pad or felt will it oscillate a lot?

Realm X comfort setting vs. SR6 performance setting? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’m not going to be able to get anywhere to shoot these two bows for the next couple of weeks and was curious if anyone has done any comparisons on the draw of the Realm X on the comfort setting versus the Realm SR6 on performance?

Let me state up front that if I would get the SR6 it would be a 50 pounder and the X would be a 60 pounder. What I’m mainly interested in hearing is how these two setups would compare in smoothness of draw and valley. I really dislike draw cycles that have a ‘hump’ before they hit the valley. For me it should be a smooth pull from peak weight into the valley.

Also, would anyone have any idea as to which setup would be faster (50lb SR6 perf. or 60lb X comfort)?

Having trouble setting up and taking down Double Bull Bullpen blind #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hello fellow hunters,
Was wondering if any of you guys have had problems setting up or taking down your DB Bullpen blind. Im pretty familiar with the Double Bull setup as my Dad has an older Primos DB. Ive even got to point of looking at you tube videos of setup/takedown(raised hunting)ect… For whatever reason my blind doesn’t want to seem to collapse like it should. I’ve used it twice for turkey hunting this year so it’s been out in the elements to stretch/break in. Went to air it out clean up some of the mud on the inside of the blind yesterday and found that one of the rods popped out of the roof hub. Just wondering if it’s me or what because I feel like every time I set it up or take it down I’m going to break something. Thanks Ben Ellerman

Need Advice Setting up Youth Carbon Defiant #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

My 12 year old daughter has become quite competitive at indoor and outdoor target archery so we bought her a Carbon Defiant 34, most other target bows were too heavy or missing features we desired. My question though is with all the accessories. Can’t afford to buy a 2nd bow for her so I’m curious how we can set this bow up for target, 3d and some hunting. I don’t shoot target personally but I keep reading about lizard tongue rests, sights scopes or magnifiers and peeps with verifiers. Not to mention stabs that are a mile long, haha. So am I going down wrong road trying to use bow for all the above? Or are there some really solid rests and sights that can be used for all. Hopefully someone can help me understand what type of rests, sights, peeps are used in target and if any can be used across the board.. We are trying to make sure she is setup good as possible.

Thanks

I’m doing a 3 degree right helical 3 vein. First time I’ll be fletching my own arrows.

Does someone have a better description on where the screws and knobs should be set than the instructions that came with it?

Thanks!
