A little Vegas 450 practice Wednesday night. I still need to make some work… my dot would sit rock solid around the 1 O’clock in the 10 ring. I struggled to get it to settle anywhere else. Still, a personal best 448/29x

Your Method for Getting on Target #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I very rarely post in the general archery section, but I figure target shooters would be the most knowledgeable on this subject matter. As archers we all have a natural rhythm to drawing a bow and getting your sight pin on target. My question is do you prefer to "drop down" on the x, or "come up" on the x when shooting?

I’m not sure if everyone will understand what I am asking but I will try to simplify it. When we draw our bows naturally we are not aimed at our X. We have to physically place the sight pin on the x. That is what I am asking, do you prefer to bring your sight up or down, or maybe another method?

Getting from sticks to the stand? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

So when I was younger and wirey I had no issue setting sticks or steps as high as I could then hugging the tree to get into the stand which I placed above my last stick. Now that I’m older and wiser and don’t bounce like I used to, I always want a good handhold or two to get into my stand. There are some trees where I want to be as high as I can be and don’t want to carry an extra stick. Anyone come up with something different to help get into the stand?

I use lifelines so was thinking about maybe some kind of aider tied to the prusik knot or on the beaner.

Need help getting a new Bow #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I have been shooting for about 6 months now and have got my shot pretty good. I am shooting a Mathews Solo Cam I bought off a buddy. Looking any tips on buying a new bow. I like Mathews but am open to any brand. Also can I just go to an Archery shop and they will set me up for free to test out bows? Not looking to spend over $ 600 if you suggest a bow. Thanks guys

I’m currently trying to get back into bowhunting. I haven’t hunted since I was in high school. I live in the Fresno/Visalia area of central california and am trying to find people to hunt with and good places to hunt!

Need help getting my Mathews HTR in spec #archery

I put some new 60x strings on my htr and I couldn’t line up the timing mark with the cables. Also the draw length is half and inch long (27 inch mod draws at 27.5). Peak weight is at 71 lb and holding weight is 21 lb (75% let off mod). ATA is 32 ⅛, brace height is 6 ⅝ to 6 ¾.

I brought the bow to a pro shop couple weeks ago. A week and $ 85 later the bow came back pretty much the same and they told me the string is too long.

I can’t take any more twist out of the cables and can’t put anymore twist into the string. What do I do?

Evolution of deer hunting…am I getting old? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Guys,
Don’t get me wrong, I still like to consider myself a young gun. At 26, I hope I have many more seasons left in the woods. I’m well past the stage of brown and down (just not my thing but to each his own). I’m to the stage of killing does for the freezer but will let a small buck walk. I’d rather eat tag soup than kill a 1.5 year old…again, to each his own. So this year I find out a cousin of mine is getting into hunting at 17. I have a farm I hunt my uncle owns (not his dad). Come to find out, he’s scouted the place and put up trail cameras next to my stand. He put them there because he figured the stand was there for a reason…which is true. So here’s the mental kicker. 5 years ago, that would have rubbed me the wrong way. Do I want him in my stand when I go to hunt there?…not particularly but heck, how can you fault a guy for taking it upon himself to learn to hunt? Furthermore, he is closer and would probably get more use out of the place than I can when I make time to head down to KY. At this juncture, I’m just trying to help him learn and teach him what I know. Things are changing for me too as I went from private in KY to all public in Ohio when I moved. Somehow, I am looking forward to the challenge of public more than the "sure bet" of private. Do you guys remember when it was more about the challenge than bone on the wall? I feel like that how things are turning for me and if I can get someone else interested in it then all the better. Just a rainy day thought…and if you are interested in hitting Ohio public land, let me know…its always more fun when you have a hunting buddy.
