Time of Arrow Flight / Animals Jumping the String #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

How common is it to have animals "jump the string" and move before the arrow gets there? Any bad experiences with it? I personally have not had any, but I’m just curious what others may have experienced.

A lot of people are shooting a long ways at animals these days. Just curious about what bow speeds and shot distances people are comfortable with for longer shots.

Random Facts:
• Time of flight for a 300 fps arrow going 80 yards is .8 seconds
• A humans reaction time (for comparison) to an audible stimulus is .17 seconds. A 300 fps bow can only go 17 yards in that time.

Do your thoughts on the subject change depending on animal? Whitetails can be pretty high strung. Elk seem to be less cagey. Muleys… well, they’re muleys.

Broadhead flight with no vanes #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I said it can be done a while back someone told me they would lime to see that. Did it three times in a row twice on video. With a lighted nock so one could see

I’m not saying one doesn’t need vanes. Vanes help for sure in a positive way but my arrow is a laser before i add vanes. I want the straightest possible arrow flight as can be. Here’s the video

Magnus Black Hornet Ser Razor, how are the flight characteristics?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Really looking at this head for the upcoming season. Was wondering for those that have them, how do they fly for you? Same as field points, group good, etc. I usually just paper tune all of my arrows to shoot a perfect bullet hole and have had good luck getting them to group right with my fp’s. This head just looks like it would really do a lot of damage internally and be very durable. Thanks.

exodus flight trouble

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

ok…For 2 years now, through 2 different bows I have tried to get the QAD exodus to fly right and I just can’t. My paper tune is very good, I can shoot both slick tricks and steelforce sabertooth out of the same set up and the they fly great, but for the life of me I cannt get the QAD to perform like I want. The POI isn’t all that bad, but the in flight movement I just can’t take. Both bows were totally different. One being a 34 ATA 7+ brace and the new one is 30 ATA 6 7/8…One was shot with a biscuit, one was shot with a drop away…Just can’t make it work and feel like I should be able to.

Anyone else have this issue or is this just me?

Broad head flight question

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

How critical is it to have your fixed broad heads aligned with your fletching for proper broadhead flight? Currently my broadheads are not aligned with my fletching and every arrow is different.

I am having difficulty getting my broad heads to impact like my field points. I have paper tuned then walk back tuned and now broad head tuning and am really struggling with my broadhead tuning. Up until that point I was fine. I felt I got good arrow flight. I am micro tuning my rest for matching impacts but it is so sensitive to adjustments that I am driving myself nuts. I literally feel like I am adjusting my rest in 1/32 to 1/64 adjustments with marginal results. My broadhead impact the same as my field point up to 30 yards. After that, at 40 yard shots, my field points impact 4 inches to the left of my broad heads with good elevation. My 50 yard shots my field points impact low 2 inches and 6 inches to the left of my broadheads. I haven’t shot at 60 yards.

I am shooting a Hoyt Alphamax 32 with a 29" draw at 61 lbs. My arrow is an Easton FMJ 400, 29" long with 100 gr Trophy taker shuttle t broad heads. My fletching is flex fletch fhp 200.

Any suggestions would be helpful. I leave for my archery elk hunt on thursday and time is running out.

Rick

Arrow flight issues

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I bought a new mathews heli m and I am having some really arrow flight issues. I am shoot 65# with a 27" draw length with goldtip 5575 pro hunter arrows. I put on a brand new ripcord rest when I bought the bow last wk. I am gettin no consistency at all and my arrows have alot of fishtailing going on. I have been setting up my own bows for yrs and I am very anul about centershot being right on. I slowly started to move the rest out of center shot and it started to get a little better but not even close to being right. The best arrow flight I got was when it was a mile out of center shot and we all know thats not right. I took the rip cord rest of and put on a G5 expert pro rest and got the same results. Does anyone have any other suggestions or ideas as to what my issue may be? I am at a complete loss for Ideas at this point and to be honest I am starting to get a bit pissed. Any thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Henry

Nock left in flight

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I have noticed that I have been getting a nock left in flight only, and only when there is noticeable wind (more than a breeze). Any suggestions on a fix or why this is happening? Need more head weight? Less head weight? For some reason, even though it goes against what I have read (nock left at contact = too weak spine), I am going to try more head weight. I feel like I am shooting too light of an arrow, 2016 cut to 29" draw 27"-27 1/4" (self measuring dl) with 125 grain head out of a 55# longbow. Plan on cutting 2 arrows to about 28 3/4 and throwing 150 grain on the front. Unfortunately I won’t be able to try this out until next week though. Thoughts? Thanks for the help, y’all haven’t steered wrong yet!
