Iowa 2020-Anyone else drawing? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Pretty pumped! Should draw zone 5 this year. I’ve never hunted Iowa before but I’ve taken 6-7 scouting trips and got a bunch of spots that have really good sign. Hopefully the time invested in scouting will pay off. I’m taking 3 weeks of vacation to hit it hard.

LMK if anyone has any tips on what to expect…..or a chunk of managed private land that they would like me to hunt on😉

80ft lb of K.E. out of an easy drawing, large valley, 63lb bow….Yes Please #archery

I like a lot of bows, a whole lot of bows, but the SR6 is somethings special for sure. At 29.5in draw and at 63lb this thing is shooting a 463 grain arrow just over 280fps. At 63lb it is crazy easy to draw (ok, so are all bows) but it is also pretty dang quiet and the holding weight is next to nothing. I am guesstimating it is about 87-88% letoff.

The bow holds well and while there is a bit of stacking on the last inch or two of draw at that draw weight it is really doesn’t matter at all. This bow really does deserve to be bow of the year.

Wish I would of stuck with the MO roots color instead of black, but really hard to find much to complain about with this bow.

Anybody own the Bushnell Trophy Xtreme range finder and find it not working consistently? I’ve got two new ones and they both only work 70% of the time. Can’t figure out why but I guess their going back.

What is the smoothest drawing Hoyt?

I have bad shoulders, like Hoyt bows, and would like to know which of their current hunting models has the smoothest draw cycle. Speed isn’t a priority to me.

Court rejects man’s lawsuit for drawing gun on trespassers after calling police

Another he said, she said. This time no alcohol involved. It’s a weird situation. At first you want to say that it’s stupid that the officer arrested him, but after seeing that the ‘trespassers’ were merely looking at the house that was for sale and weren’t attempting to break any laws, perhaps the landowner over reacted. I can’t really comment unless I knew more about the case. But it does go to show you how you being in the right as a landowner isn’t always great.

How many of us would see a trespasser, grab a sidearm (concealed and only pulled in an emergency) and go out and confront those trespassers after calling for police and then trying to hold them until police got there? I bet quite a few.

Appeals court shoots down Flushing man’s lawsuit over arrest for drawing gun on trespassers

FLUSHING TWP, MI — An appeals court has tossed a lawsuit from a Flushing man who was arrested after he pulled a gun to stop trespassers from leaving his Flushing Township property.

The Michigan Court of Appeals ruled Dec. 18 that the lawsuit by Mark Roger Eichorn against the Genesee County sheriff’s deputy who arrested him should be dismissed because the deputy was within his rights in detaining Eichorn.

Eichorn filed the lawsuit July 3, 2012, against Genesee County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Marsh. Eichorn claimed the deputy falsely arrested him and that he was the victim of malicious prosecution when he was arrested and charged with two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon in early 2012.

"I personally disagree with the Michigan Court of Appeals," said Eichorn’s attorney, Glen Lenhoff.

Genesee County Sheriff Robert Pickell could not be reached for comment.

Eichorn was arrested after he confronted two people March 21, 2012, who were viewing a house for sale on West Coldwater Road.

Eichorn claimed he received a phone call from a neighbor that someone had driven onto his neighbor’s property and his property at 8059 W. Coldwater Road in Flushing Township. The neighbor also called 911, according to court records.

After receiving the call, Eichorn said he and his two teenage sons drove to his property, which has a pole barn that sits approximately 1,200 feet off the road, and observed a man and woman viewing a neighboring house at 8041 W. Coldwater Road. Eichorn previously owned the home but it was foreclosed by the bank and was for sale.

Court records show the lot with the home does not have a driveway connecting it to Coldwater Road and Eichorn said he used a gated driveway through his 8059 Coldwater property to access the lot when he owned it. Eichorn claims he has experienced several situations where people trespass on his property to view the house after the bank put it up for sale, according to the lawsuit.

The individuals attempted to leave the property they had been viewing, but Eichorn and his neighbor blocked the access off the property, according to court records.

Court records show Eichorn stood in front of the trespassers’ vehicle and told them they had to wait for police. However, Eichorn claimed the trespassing driver accelerated forward, hitting his legs and forcing him to jump onto the hood of the car.

Eichorn then claimed the driver accelerated a second time, forcing him to backpedal. Fearing he was going to be run over, Eichorn pulled his loaded gun and pointed it over the hood of the car.

"He explained that he absolutely intended to use the gun and that he was in fear for his life when he pulled the gun," according to the appeals court.

The driver stopped immediately.

Marsh arrived on scene and interviewed Eichorn, the neighbor and the people in the vehicle.

The people in the vehicle claimed that Eichorn acted as if he had been hit by the vehicle and that he pointed the gun as they attempted to leave.

Marsh arrested Eichorn on a charge of felonious assault for pointing his gun at two people. The people in the vehicle were not arrested.

A different police detective submitted the case to Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton. Criminal charges were filed against Eichorn, but the case was eventually dismissed when the two people who were viewing the home failed to show up to testify during a preliminary exam.

Eichorn sued for false arrest, false imprisonment and malicious prosecution, claiming that Marsh lacked probable cause to make the arrest because he claims he pointed the gun in self-defense and the deputy didn’t act in good faith because he ignored Eichorn’s version of events.

However, the appeals court ruled that an affirmative defense to a charge, such as claims of self-defense, does not negate the elements of a crime and the officer’s right to make an arrest.

Also, the court ruled the deputy was not required to believe Eichorn’s version of events.

"Although a suspect’s explanation of suspicious behavior is a factor the police may take into consideration when making a probable cause determination, an officer ‘is under no obligation to give any credence to a suspect’s story nor should a plausible explanation in any sense require the officer to forego arrest pending further investigation if the facts as initially discovered provide probable cause,’" the appeals court wrote in its ruling.

Eichorn also sued for racial discrimination, claiming he was arrested instead of the driver because he is white and the driver of the vehicle is black. Eichorn claimed that he and the driver were both under suspicion of committing a felonious assault, but he was discriminated against because only he was arrested.

However, the appeals court also shot down that argument, claiming that Eichorn could not establish that Marsh’s actions were based on racial motivations.

Lenhoff said he plans to appeal the court’s decision to the Michigan Supreme Court in early 2015.
