This review is from: Martin Saber Takedown Bow, 45-Pound, Black (Sports)

I originally purchased this 45lb draw takedown bow for my Hawkeye costume then decided to take up archery as a hobby. The bow comes in a small box, relatively well packaged, with just a few pieces of mounting hardware and the bow stringer included. The limb bolts were a tight fit but everything fastened to the riser without an issue. The included bow stringer was helpful, but the instructions were not. I did a quick youtube search and found some instructional videos on stringing a recurve bow. Once you do it a couple of times, it’s a snap.

The included arrow rest is cheap plastic and stripped before I could even get it all the way threaded into the hole. It’s imperative that you purchase a proper arrow rest for this bow to get the most bang for your buck. I picked up a fall-away arrow rest and a Trophy Ridge Punisher 5-pin sight to complete the setup. [Note: the sight’s mounting screws were too long for the holes on the Martin Saber and I had to purchase some washers to get the sight to mount firmly (otherwise it wobbles).] There are some actual mounting kits for the Martin Saber out there…but at $30, that seems overkill. Two plastic washers did the trick.

Once everything was together, I took it and a dozen carbon fiber arrows with target points out to my driveway (which is about 15yds long) and began shooting at a Yellowjack FP target propped up on a card board box against my old garage door. It took about three arrows to dial this thing in and within 30 minutes, I was grouping most of my arrows within 5″ of each target ring.

This is my first bow and my first time ever firing a bow (though I’ve shot plenty of other firearms) and found it to be very accurate right out of the box. The rubberized grip was a perfect fit for my average-sized hands and the draw was very smooth. With the addition of a good arrow rest and a good sight, this is a great bow for anyone starting up archery.
