Hunting arrow weight

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hello all! New to the forum and just wanted to bring up a subject that has long been debated. First off let me say with no conciet or ego implied at all that I have been a bowhunter for 30 plus years and like many here I have a deep respect for the beautiful animals that I have the privallige of hunting.
I shoot fast bows and light arrows and have for many years. I shoot 65 lbs and 29" draw and my arrows are 27" @ 364 grains moving a respectable 325fps. Now I here alot of hunters tell me how my arrows are too light and wont have enough ke down range to take large game. Well I personally believe that old way of thinking we need 420+ grain arrows is outdated with todays bows. I blow through moose at 70 yards and devistate shoulder blades on elk and deer if i hit them blowing clean through 98% of the time. I shot a deer this season at 50 yards and had it spin slightly and litteraly blew through both shoulder blades and a set of ribs with a clean pass through. Just sharing my experience here and certainly not knocking anyones set up or opinion. Just wonder why so many hunters feel they need to shoot heavy arrows and believe lighter arrows wont penetrate and keep on going? Just food for thought! Glad to be part of the forum! Have a great night all!!

hunting arrow weight ?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I just bought a 2013 Elite Hunter. It maxes at 63 pounds and I have a 28.5" draw. I am not a speed freak but would like to get around 275fps with a 100 grain head. I am shooting Easton FMJ 411grains and charts say I would get around 250fps with them.

What is a good hunting arrow that will weigh in around 350grains with the head and handle 62lb draw weight.

Thanks

Buying a Samick Sage/Polaris, Confused on Draw Weight

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’m looking to get a recurve for backyard fun mostly. I’ve been to a few local shops, none carry the Samick brand. I did however test a few different weights on recurves. 20# just seemed too easy, 35# was comfortable, 40# was stiff but doable. What weight would y’all recommend? I hear once you start shooting, you move up in weight quick, don’t want anything that in say a few months I tire of and becomes too easy. Also may want to use it for small game and "survival" type situations.

Thanks
Adammg

Carbon Express weight forward

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

hello all,
I’m weighting on my new bow to arrive (hoyt tiburon). been burning up the stu miller dynamic spin calculator trying deferent arrow setups. I’ve pretty much got it narrowed down to either gold tip hunters or carbon express mayhem hunters. i shoot nano sst’s out of my oly set up and they are by far the best arrow I’ve ever shot as far as easy to tune and getting them to clear. i was wondering if any one had tried some of the weight forward carbon exp. and if it would have a similar affect as to the nano sst’s/pro extreme’s

Arrow weight for hunting hogs, deer and bear

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey Guys I’m looking for advice on setting up arrows for hunting hogs, deer and black bear. I’m shooting a Bear Super Kodiak 50 lb. My draw length is 28 inches. My current arrows are Victory Vforce 500, 4 inch feathers with brass inserts and 125gr points. Total arrow weight is 400 grains. They shoot / fly great, If I do my part I can keep my groups the size of a pie pan at 30 yards.

I’ve been doing a lot of research and reading Dr. Ed Ashbys recommendations on total arrow weight and FOC. I believe I should have a total arrow weight of 500 grains or more. I need advice on arrows, spine weight, broadheads and total arrow weight. Also should I use 4 or 5 inch feathers?

Thank you for any advice with my endeavor

Patrick

Do Easton’s weight ratings include the factory wrap/cresting that come on some of their models (Axis, Bloodlines)?

Help please…What weight head for my arrows?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

bear Kodiak recurve
50# (nominal draw weight written on bow)
60"amo
I am 6′ tall (don’t know draw length)
arrows:
.340 spine
32" long

Can someone at least give me my range of options? I was at the shop the other day and I was told I should go to a lighter spine, but some of the charts I’m reading like 3rivers archery are suggesting that I should go heavier if anything. I want to make these arrows work. I would like to go as heavy with the broadhead as possible for FOC and penetration. Can I go 200 grains?

How will I know if I’m underspined?
