Buying a Samick Sage/Polaris, Confused on Draw Weight

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’m looking to get a recurve for backyard fun mostly. I’ve been to a few local shops, none carry the Samick brand. I did however test a few different weights on recurves. 20# just seemed too easy, 35# was comfortable, 40# was stiff but doable. What weight would y’all recommend? I hear once you start shooting, you move up in weight quick, don’t want anything that in say a few months I tire of and becomes too easy. Also may want to use it for small game and "survival" type situations.

Thanks
Adammg

hello all,
I’m weighting on my new bow to arrive (hoyt tiburon). been burning up the stu miller dynamic spin calculator trying deferent arrow setups. I’ve pretty much got it narrowed down to either gold tip hunters or carbon express mayhem hunters. i shoot nano sst’s out of my oly set up and they are by far the best arrow I’ve ever shot as far as easy to tune and getting them to clear. i was wondering if any one had tried some of the weight forward carbon exp. and if it would have a similar affect as to the nano sst’s/pro extreme’s

Arrow weight for hunting hogs, deer and bear

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hey Guys I’m looking for advice on setting up arrows for hunting hogs, deer and black bear. I’m shooting a Bear Super Kodiak 50 lb. My draw length is 28 inches. My current arrows are Victory Vforce 500, 4 inch feathers with brass inserts and 125gr points. Total arrow weight is 400 grains. They shoot / fly great, If I do my part I can keep my groups the size of a pie pan at 30 yards.

I’ve been doing a lot of research and reading Dr. Ed Ashbys recommendations on total arrow weight and FOC. I believe I should have a total arrow weight of 500 grains or more. I need advice on arrows, spine weight, broadheads and total arrow weight. Also should I use 4 or 5 inch feathers?

Thank you for any advice with my endeavor

Patrick

Do Easton’s weight ratings include the factory wrap/cresting that come on some of their models (Axis, Bloodlines)?

Help please…What weight head for my arrows?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

bear Kodiak recurve
50# (nominal draw weight written on bow)
60"amo
I am 6′ tall (don’t know draw length)
arrows:
.340 spine
32" long

Can someone at least give me my range of options? I was at the shop the other day and I was told I should go to a lighter spine, but some of the charts I’m reading like 3rivers archery are suggesting that I should go heavier if anything. I want to make these arrows work. I would like to go as heavy with the broadhead as possible for FOC and penetration. Can I go 200 grains?

How will I know if I’m underspined?

Arrow weight

I’m shooting around #60 from my longbow using 27" cedars with a 125 gr head.
I haven’t really weighed my arrows but I’m guessing they aren’t even 400 gr.
When I shot compound I used the Easton FMJ’s that weighed in at the 450 gr range.
What’s the "norm" for a traditional hunting arrow weight for big game up to elk?
How can I get more weight? Carbons with tubes?

Minimum draw weight for deer?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

My girlfriend is just getting into hunting and she is using my youth bow. She wants to go out this weekend, or thursday evening perhaps, but I don’t know is her bow is shooting fast enough. It is a Diamond The Edge, she is pulling 24.5", and I do not know the draw weight at the moment. It is very light. I am worried about the speed because it seems super slow, too slow for an ethical kill.

What is considered to be the minimum? I hunt in Iowa and I do not believe there is a legal minimum.

Thanks!
