Arrow Weight – 70# Insanity 30.5″dl

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Just wondering on how light my arrows CAN be. I know the old adage is 5grains per pound. My insanity is set at 70# but I think in reality it’s doing around 68#. So in theory that’s 340-350gr. I put it through the chrono with my lightspeeds and it was doing 328-330fps. Weighed the arrows and they were coming in at 340 grains.

Thoughts?

Best Mid Weight Jacket?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’ve always had Scent Lok stuff, this year wanted to try the UA stuff out. Yesterday I bought a Speed Freek UA jacket and it’s nicely fit, well built and comfortable. But I feel even with layering it might not help much when it dips below 40. I don’t want to spent Sitka money, is there anything else similar that will keep me warmer with base layers?

I’ve never tried adding the weights to the inserts. Who uses the weight system and are the weights easy to install? Do they come loose?

GT Ultralight weight tolorance

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Can’t seem to find on the Gold Tip site what the weight tolorance is for the regular Ultralight shafts. I think that the pro’s are .5 gr difference. Most of the hunter models are +-2 gr. I see the straightness is .003 on the Ultralights, what’s the weight tolorance?

Trying to figure out my holding weight, not so straight forward

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Not so straight forward and just a guesstimate, 26" Vanquish riser wound in 3 turns on the bolts, 43# Hex6′s at 26.25" on the button showing 44#, problem is I don’t have decent set of scales (just cheap fishing scales) seems from my Longbows it appears to be consistently showing around 2# less as marked on the scales and as I’m drawing 1" shorter I’m guessing I’m holding around 43 to 44# at anchor.

29" 500 Lightspeed 350g, 3" feathers, 125g point gives me 60y point on (ideal for IFAA 3D), bareshaft showing slightly stiff but I don’t want to increase point weight or poundage as one more turn on the bolts puts me out of my Form comfort zone, at this current setting I’m drilling the 10 ring out to 40y one more turn on the bolts and I start to see a more Form mistakes. I’ve got some 29" 550 Carbon1′s with 120g points on order and I hope these tune a little better.

Today I figured out 70 and 80 yards using riser shelf, felt good to keep them in the score zone at these distances.

Chart for tip weight and spine?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Is there a chart or any kind of measurements that can be done that will tell you how much tip weight changes arrow spine? Got a bow on order and plan on buying correct arrow spine for the bow, but say I wanted to try and shoot my compound arrows (CX Mayhem Hunter 350s). I know I could add tip weight to weaken the spine, but my question is, is there are a chart that tells you how much tip weight would be needed to weaken this arrow (which comes out to roughly a 340 spine) to make it shoot true? Or is it a trial and error type of thing? Arrow length would also have to be considered in the chart I’d assume.

I’m new to this but I’ve seen some posts where ppls hunting arrow setups are with much stiffer spined arrows than recommended with heavy tips. I know it will take some tinkering to find the perfect setup that has the correct spine, heavy for penetration, just the right FOC, etc. But buying multiple arrows with different spines, different weight inserts, and different weight tips, seems like it could add up pretty quick. Any help and info is greatly appreciated.

Thanks
David
