Draw weight #archery

As someone who doesn’t get much of any practice, fatigue has been kicking my butt. I’ve been very consistent after switching bows in January. Been shooting a 298-299 Vegas every time out but groups just too big to get many x’s. Shot only three 9′s in Lancaster and still didn’t make the cut. So finally after a consistent but disappointing 577 at nationals Saturday I decided to back my limbs out a bit and although I still struggled a bit the second half, I improved by 7 points the next day shooting my highest score in many years.

So the moral of the story here is before messing around with form or changing equipment don’t forget about that draw weight. I think draw weight is something people don’t pay enough attention to. Don’t struggle to shoot more weight it’s not worth it. It’s amazing what shedding just a couple lbs can do.

First photo is Saturday shooting typical 298 (notice the difference between first bottom left and last bottom right target) and second is Sunday after losing some weight and I shot almost like a machine and got a 300 outer 10.

Increasing arrow and broad head weight

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’m less than a year into bow hunting and addicted. I was sold 500 spine arrows when I bought my bow (beman ics hunter).

I have 27.5" draw length. Initially bow was set to 50#, now 60. Overall arrow length is 26.5".

I’m concerned my arrow weight maybe too light for hunting (or not optimal at least). I’ve been shooting nap killzone broadheads, 100 grain.

I’m interested in trying two blade fixed broadheads and something heavier.

I’m looking at vp penetrators at 150 grains and the carbon express 250 pile drivers.

I’m ok with losing speed, I want solid penetration.

Does this sound like a reasonable combination? Any suggestions? Am I totally off track?

Disclaimer: I will discuss this with a pro shop before pulling the trigger; I’m brainstorming something fierce and would love some feedback.

Hunting arrow weight

Not to beat a dead horse but I gotta ask what’s the best weight set up for Whitetail and maybe a black bear. I’m leaning toward a 450 weight on a 400 spine (250 if carbon express) I think.

My set up
Htx 60# 85%let off 27.5 dl

Looking at carbon express pile drivers at 10 gpi would put me at 450 ish

Hunting stabilizer – heavy weight at the front

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hi
Currently I shoot a Arctec pro Hunter 12" stabilizer on my PSE Supra max. My sight is a Hogg father. This combination gives me a lot of weight at the front of my bow. The Arctec has a weight of 16oz. The Hogg father is also very close by the 16oz.
So far so good. Every time when i pick up my bow I think, for god´s sake, there is to much weight at the front, but when i draw it back, it feels so comfortable. I have absolute no issues with the bubble. Aiming is easy, holding the pin in the targed – zero problems. Also the shoot itselve feels good. Absolutely dead in the hand. All in all, i love this setup.
Now I am just wondering, if a complete 30" stabilizer with additional 12" side rod may could improve something!?
I shoot 3D with my bow. If I loose some points at a competition, the reason is alway a bad estimation of the distance. Nevertheless I would like to know, if it is worth to buy an extra stabilizer system!?

When changing DRaw weight do we have to adjust the rest afterwards?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

One of my good buddies is setting up his bow, they had it set at 70lbs but he wants to back it down to about 65 lbs, do we need to move his rest and re paper tune and everything or will it still be about the same tuning wise? The arrows he had were under spine (can’t think of the arrow right now) but they should be pretty close at 65lbs.
