Bow vise #archery

So I am looking to buy my first bow vise. I am stuck between the OMP versa and the Apple vise. Any insight with one over the other would be great to know. I know the OMP is pretty adjustable but is it needed for or would the simplicity of the Apple be all a guy needs?

Bow Vise vs Bow Fixture, need help #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey, I’m slowly working on putting together a small setup in my garage. I’m wanting to mount a vise or a fixture in order to level and mount equipment. My question is which is better. I don’t mind waiting and saving up for what I may need. My two options are on OMP Versa Vise or an HTM fixture. Both of these are pretty expensive, so I want to buy one and be done. Which of these is better, or is there something out there that’s better than both? My space is limited in my garage, so I don’t have room (and the funds) for both. What are your thoughts and opinions? Thanks in advance, God Bless!

My Home Made Draw board/Work Bench/Bow Vise

Well, I decided to finally build that draw board I’ve been thinking about for six months. I wanted a dedicated work bench that would have an integrated draw board, stand for a bow vise and a flat surface to put my DIY bow press.

So Sunday I built a work bench with a bottom shelf. It has a 4′ x 3′ table top. I over built it I’m sure using a combination of 2×4’s and 2×6’s.

The draw board directions I got from Field and Stream. http://www.fieldandstream.com/articl…r-compound-bow.

1. Get a 6-foot-long 2×6 ($ 4 at any big-box hardware store). If you have synthetic decking material like Trex (trex.com) lying around, or want to spend more money for it, all the better. It won’t warp if left in a damp basement.

2. Screw a 3⁄4-inch threaded floor flange ($ 5) 6 inches from the end of your 2×6. Thread a 31⁄2-inch pipe ($ 3) into the flange. Place a piece of old rubber hose over the pipe as a cushion, or wrap it with sports tape.

3. Bolt down a small trailer winch ($ 24) 45 to 50 inches from the flange. Go longer if you plan to add a bow scale or shorter if you have a tight draw length. Leave an extra 6 inches of board behind the winch for a bench clamp.

4. Attach a spring snap or load-bearing carabiner ($ 4) to your winch. Clip the ’biner through your string loop. Draw the bow by cranking the winch back. Be careful! It’s not hard to rip your bow apart by overdrawing the winch.

Optional: To check draw length, add a $ 1 yardstick to your 2×6. Draw length is measured from the front of the riser, so you’ll have to cut a few inches from the yardstick before mounting.

I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. Works like a champ!

Now I just have to get a decent hanging scale and hopefully my buddy will finish fabricating the fingers for my DIY bowpress (the one from here with the pipe clamps).

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

bought a suction vise at LOWEs because its an hour to harbour freight….
vise ……..$ 22.00
1" stickon velcro…..$ 3.50
1/2"x1/8" steel straight stock….$ 3.69
4-2 1/2" screws
added a little weld
a hole in each corner to screw down to workbench

cut four peices of steel 1-3/4" long and welded to the jaws of vise, covered the newly revamped jaws with the soft side of velcro and reattached the jaws….last step was to screw down to bench….

sure beats my apple…it took lots of turns to tighten down and loosening again
