My 9 Year Old Shot his First Turkey! (and it was with a bow)

I took him out yesterday evening, he only wants to hunt with his bow. We set up in the gound blind and after about an hour we had a bunch of Jake’s coming to us. One came into about 15 yards and my son let him have it, he took off and we tried to follow but we couldn’t find it. I had today off so I told him I would look after he I got him on the bus. I took a long walk and found him in some high grass. I was very lucky to find him, I had no blood. He will be on happy little man when he gets home! I will post more pics with him when he gets home.

I’m so proud of him!

NC Turkey Down!

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Shot my first ever turkey today, let alone with a bow at 12 yards. He was puffed up about to attack the jake decoy when I sent a VAP/Swhacker straight through him! He jumped over 10 feet and he was done! The coolest part was that the spot he died on he was laying on an old shed antler. He’s just a jake but he was 20 lbs, 4" beard, and little knub spurs.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1367685152.395790.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1367685219.749116.jpg

will this turkey set up work??

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Got on one early today and watched it fly off the roost. This is some steep terrain. Where I was sitting there is a tram road that just below is a small bench, then opens to a large valley. I thought he would come up the tram to me but instead he flew into the hollow, indicated by the yellow lines.

I believe he is assembling his hens on the roost and flying down into the hollow to breed. My question is: What side of the hollow should I set up on. It is too steep to look into and see where exactly he went. I am thinking at the top right of the hollow would be my best shot at getting him. The lower end is getting close to house and there is a field about 200 yards from the top. I image he meets his girls in the hollow then works up to the field. Here is the top of the area. Let me know your thoughts?

Primos Jackpot with Slate and What turkey broadheads to use??

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

First question, sometimes I find myself squeeking my slate call.. Any obvious ideas as to why? I find it usually happening with I try to make my Ovals. I condition it with a scotch or brillo pad and only scratch the half of the call that I am going to use.. I also use the striker that came with the call.. the one with the different colors on the handle..

Second question, what turkey broadheads to you guys use? I really don’t want to have to go chase after a rage broadhead through the woods..

Who’s ready for turkey season?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Here in WI 1st season turkey starts in less than 2 weeks! I was lucky enough to draw 1st season with my buddies, and I picked up an extra tag for 4th season, which will be my first try for turkeys with the LB. I’ve killed a bird with the compound but never trad gear.
Who’s going after them with the bow?
Has anyone ever taken one with the bow, without using a blind?

Anyone kill a turkey using a bow mounted blind?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’m talking about the umbrella blinds that screw into the stabilizer hole. I have read on them a good bit but not once seen that anyone has killed a turkey using one.
