Anyone have success with a electronic or string operated Turkey Decoy? #archery

Anyone have success with a electronic or string operated Turkey Decoy? Like the Mojo Quarter Pounder? Or tying fishing line to a decoy?

And if so, was it a certain time of the season or month?

Using turkey decoys in the woods #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

So this year I’m trying something different. I am focusing on hunting in the woods and hunting turkeys like I do deer instead of hunting field edges exclusively. Just pick a spot and sit there for a long time.

It almost worked out the first try. I setup on the top of a steep ridge. It’s a tough walk but I always had trail cam pics of turkeys there so I figured I would give it a shot. Within an hour I had 4 jakes come in down the ridge. They saw the decoys and got scared and hung up just out of range.

While the jakes came in I had some toms and hens come in from below me. They were 40 yards away but did not come close enough for a shot. The same thing happened a little later with a few more toms. All the birds were responding to my calls, even the hens. But they wouldn’t come close enough for a shot.

I was using a decoy with a jake fan and a hen decoy. They saw the decoys but wouldn’t come in. In fact, I think had I not had he decoys I’d have at least gotten a shot at one of the jakes. Am I better off not using decoys in the woods?

2017 California Archery Turkey #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’ve taken several (23) turkeys with my bow over the years.. This year a friend says "try expandable heads".. So with some trepidation I except the challenge of using them.. He gives me some look a like rage something or other.. I have to say I’m amazed at the way expandable heads work on turkeys.. I shot this bird at 46 yards and he was stone cold DRT at the shot…. I hit just forward of the right thigh and smashed into the left wing bone.. just shy of 22lbs, 9in beard and 1 1/8 hooks.. Not to say my fixed heads wouldn’t have done the job, which they would have, hehehe. I was just amazed at the baseball hitting a 2×4 sound the arrow made when it hit the bird and the effectiveness of them.. I’m sold for turkeys.. Click image for larger version. </p>

question for merriams turkey hunters #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Just finished a successful DIY hunt for Merriams and where I was I noticed the beards considerably thinner that what I see on Easterns back home. Lengths seemed in line, jw if that is common for Merriams.

Also I’m in need of some tail feathers to fix mine up. He was a little beat up. If anyone has some or expects to get one and isn’t using the tail please get in touch with me.

Turkey Hunting and Rain #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

This is my first spring chasing the elusive turkey with a bow (or anything really) and while I’ve been trying to read up on the subject, one thing I’ve missed is what’s the effect of rain on a hunt. From the experienced hunters – if it’s raining do I pass on that morning or afternoon? Do I expect similar activity? Is it better before, during, or after a front moves through or the same? Any guidance greatly appreciated.

Best new archery/bowhunting product at the Madison Deer and Turkey Expo? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Here’s my vote, at least among all the exhibitors I encountered:

http://buckrubarchery.com/magnedrop/5210097

This little gizmo looks like a real gem.
The new owner of the patent (if I understood him correctly), spent a few minutes demonstrating it to me, and I walked away VERY impressed.

If you’re in the market for a dropaway rest, you really should check out this one, IMO.

(And no, I’m not affiliated with Buck Rub Archery in any way.)

Can I use Mechanicals for head shots on Turkey? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Wanted to hear some opinons from guys who have done just that. Also, which types do you recommend? I was thinking about using the bullheads, but I didn’t really want to change the type of arrow and not sure if they will shoot as straight. I’ve heard lots about the guillotines and bullheads but really want to hear from guys that use mechanicals on head shots. Thanks
