Dont punch the trigger! #archery

I have always used a wrist release. How did I use it? I punched it. Not squeezed. I knew I shouldn’t but oldd habits are hard to break. I did ok but very inconsistent. I them tried thumb triggers firing the same way. Total failure. A couple weeks ago I while at a thursday evening league, I tried a hinge (for the first time). A few days later I bought a Trufire Sear. So very different from a wrist release but I love this one. I have been doing good at firing it the proper way. Been letting it surprise fire during my float instead of trying to control the whole process.

I cant believe the time wasted not shooting right. It is weird that to get more control, you have to not fight to control. Let it happen and it wwill happen. I know I have a wa ys to go, but I look forward to this new journey. This is my first scorecard with this release. We only shot 6 ends of a 5 spot. The 5th end I jerked a couple times. (Still learning) but so far I am happy considering I just switched so much at once.

So far I havent punched myself yet. Lol

back tension with a standard trigger release

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I am trying to improve my shooting and get over my target panic.

There is so many articles and videos out now covering back tension and target panic, it is hard to get clear information as they all seem a little different. Or have their own idea of how to do things.

I watched one video showing how to shoot back tension with a regular trigger release. He explained that using the tip of your finger to physically pull the trigger is wrong. You are supposed to put your finger over the trigger and hold stationary to allow your back tension to force the trigger to go off. He made it look easy, and looked like it was a great way to shoot.
I can’t seem to get this technique down.

I would rather stick with my trigger release than spend money on a new release.

Any good one stop resources to stick with when learning back tension with a standard release to help get over target panic?

Trigger release form

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hey guys, just wanted to get some input if my form is ok.

I’m using a Trufire hardcore finger release, and recently realized that by putting both my index and middle finger on the trigger and pulling back slowly, I have been more accurate and less likely to punch the trigger than using my index finger alone.
I’m wondering if this is ‘correct’ or a common method, to be using the middle finger as well, as I feel more stable in the shot.

Also, any opinions if I should dabble with a thumb or other release aid as well?

Thanks

Going from wrist strap trigger type release, to thumb release and back.

Does anyone here use both types of release with their bow, and if so, what adjustments did you make.

I use a Cobra Pro Caliper for hunting, but would like to use a Truball Absolute for 3D and target practice. However, it results in a lowr anchor point and i feel like I will need to raise the peep slightly and adjust the sights accordingly. Is that common?
