I know the score already, and the story behind this buck. I’ll edit my post and add the score next couple of days.
I just want to see how good people are estimating before I post the real numbers.
Ps this is a free range buck

Is it a dream, or am I really hunting Pike County Illinois this year! What to expect? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I have always dreamed of killing a trophy Midwest Whitetail, and it seems to be one step closer as I booked a hunt in Griggsville, Illinois (Pike County) with an Outfitter from October 29 – November 4th for this season. They list this as their most expensive hunt and best rut of the year. As it gets closer, I am trying to begin getting things in order, and make sure that I get the most out of my hunt. For every bit of excitement, I am just as nervous though as this is the first outfitter hunt I have ever been on. I have been shooting daily for the last 3 months, and I am absolutely deadly out to around 50 yards. From hunting East Texas my whole life to this hunt couldn’t be any more different. Any advice for the upcoming trip? Some of the things I have questions about, or am concerned about are:

1. Weather- I own a lot of hunting clothes, but I am concerned I will not be warm. What sort of temperature am I looking at for that time of year? Solid idea to invest in some nice stuff?

2. Grunt Call- I have never really used a grunt call, but have read a lot of places that it might be a solid idea to learn.. do any of you have a specific grunt call you recommend? I really don’t want to watch a 180" deer run does across food plots all week long , and can’t get into bow range.

3. I am planning on hunting ALOT.. I mean, daylight till dark every day. Do deer move mid day this time of year?

4. Just how big of deer are in Pike County Illinois? They are posting some monsters from their cameras, but I am curious as to how common a 150" kill is up there? My biggest buck to date is a 139" buck.

I appreciate the advice in advance fellas.

PHOENIX, Az. — West Virginia’s elk herd is expected to grow again in the coming months, this time with animals from the state of Arizona.

The Arizona Game and Fish Commission on Saturday approved a measure to allow up to 60 elk from their state to be sent to West Virginia as part of the effort to reestablish an elk herd in the southern coalfield region.

The story, first reported by the Charleston Gazette-Mail, indicated the transfer of the animals could happen in the next two to four years.

“Additional translocations in the next 2-4 years may be considered pending the success of this translocation and the status of our elk populations here [in Arizona],” Munig told the Gazette-Mail on Monday. “We are not starting the logistical planning for the translocation, so we do not have more details yet.”

The West Virginia Division of Natural Resources has not yet commented on the action by the Arizona Commission. It’s anticipated the elk would be transferred to the Tomblin Wildlife Management Area in Logan County where about two dozen elk were released in December.

The West Virginia Elk Restoration Plan called for the reintroduction on at least two southern West Virginia sites. Earlier this year on West Virginia Outdoors, DNR Elk Project Leader Randy Kelly indicated the next several releases would occur at the Tomblin WMA since the release facilities are already in place.

Last year, the Division of Natural Resources trapped and transferred 24 elk from the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in Kentucky and hauled them to West Virginia. Three of those animals died after the transfer, but two elk calves were born during the summer.

The published report indicated the plan would involve the elk being transported to West Virginia during January, February, or March by a professional livestock hauling company, possibly as early as 2018.

Clover plot not being used this yr #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Just as the title says, last year this plot(1/2acre) was new(frost seeded) and got hammered that it didnt even get to flower or through out the year i didnt have to mow it. Multiple deer were using it through out the day.
But this year its hardly being touched, almost 14" high now and both red and white clovers have flowered.

Any thoughts or ideas as to why?

Should I mow it down again to help new tender growth?

Lastly there is grass growing midst of all the clover, should I do a selective herbicide to kill the

Is this grass dying? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

This is from a couple clover plots I sprayed last Friday with Clethodim (Shadow). I know it takes longer to die than broadleafs with 24D but I thought it would be more yellow by now…. What do you guys think? DO I have reason to be worried? Or is it on its way to dying?

I know it’s early, but this guy has me hopeful that this year will be interesting every time I check my camera. The date is correct on the picture, and usually the deer around me are much skinnier this time of year. This is obviously a buck in his prime, I hope he sticks around.Click image for larger version.
