I pull 70lbs and just started shooting with a back tension release, and man, my fingers and thumb feels beat up after a few shots. Anyone experiencing similar issues? I shoot a Turbo and it’s a bit jumpy.

Tension, Thumb, Hinge Oh My… #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I have been doing some searching and reading on AT. Currently shoot a index finger with Back Tension. Always hunted but got into long distance shooting last year. Tried a thumb release last and hated it. I know a bit more and was going to try it again. I was thinking about going with tension release with the safety on it. So which releases are actually tension releases? Been looking on Lancaster and can’t seem to figure out which ones they are.

Your more than welcome to convince me to start with the Thumb, I’m not set on which one. Once I progress far enough overall I plan on trying a Hinge. I have a bunch of work to do on form so I thought I would stay away from a Hinge as I work on form.

Feel free to explain proper way to use each one. I’m new to it and don’t really know anything except what I have read.

Tiller (limb tension) to adjust up/down paper tear #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hi all !
Got a Bear Cruze G2 for my wife and I was tuning it this morning..

Paper tuning left/right was good…but got a nasty nock high tear ! Tried to lift rest and move down nock point but only got semi-good result (1/2in tear) with an extreme arrow angle..
Clearance should not be a big factor since the rest is a biscuit…

Then I decided to reset rest and nock point to get them square with button hole and screwed in the bottom limb. After 1.5 turn in, I got almost perfect bullet hole….but there is a difference of 1.5 turn between the to limb bolt..

Do you think, since the Bear cruizer is not really a "high quality" bow, that the top and bottom limbs resistance had enough difference to cause this large nock high tear ?

I’ve never shot a back tension release but I would love to give it a try I think it would improve my form and it would also improve my grouping. Problem is there are so many choices it’s not even funny. 2 3 and 4 finger. I have no idea what I would feel more comfortable with. My local pro shop doesn’t have a big selection well hardly has any selection. Are there any big box stores who has them that’ll let you try them out such as cableas? I have one roughtly an hour and half away. Or have any suggestions on what one to choose without testing, I know everyone’s preference is different. I’m 26-26.5 draw length and I have smaller hands/fingers. I wear medium gloves if that’s a reference for anyone. I see brand new prices are pretty high and I don’t want to blow 200 bucks on one that’s not comfortable to me. I see a bunch on classified listings but I’m not sure on the 2 3 or 4 finger.

Back tension for small hands #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I have a bunch of youth girls I’m coaching and looking for suggestions on small hand back tension releases. This is what my daughters shoot.
Its a great release but it looks like they no longer sell it. Erric Griggs told me in vegas this year at their booth it didn’t sell well enough to keep it in their line up. To me that means they don’t care about smaller archers.

Any other suggestions?

Hinge release and back tension issue

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I switched to a longhorn hunter a few months ago after suffering from target panic with my index release. It saved my hobby but I’ve been having some trouble trying to shoot with back tension with it. I know it’s suppose to be seated more in my knuckles however it seems like I can’t get my middle and ring finger around the release to properly shoot with back tension. Usually I just end up squeezing my ring finger to get the shot off. If I try to seat it further in my hand I end up accidentally releasing the shot. I tried playing around with the wrist strap length but that didn’t help. I pull back with my index finger and thumb seated on the post but I feel like it I try pulling back with my middle and ring finger also on the release I’ll set it off. I shoot fine using the method I do but I’d really like to learn back tension properly.
