Target 2 on a 3 spot hits high?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I have been shooting a vegas style 3 spot and the #2 (upper) target hits high compared to 1 and 3. It is high enough that when 1 and 3 are driving holes in the X, 2 groups at 12 0′clock in the 10 ring. I can’t find much on why this is, so I figured I would ask the expert here. I don’t want to mess with tuning randomly because the bow does shoot consistently in the 590+/600 realm(i’m still chasing the 600!). I make up for the high shots on 2 by holding a bit low. I want to get away from that.

My bow is a 2013 Hoyt PCE XL, Trophy Taker rest with a .010 steel and the arrows are Bloodsport Tournament 3′s in a 350 spine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers!

Cody

Homemade Target Ideas?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I am new to archery and am limited on both storage space and $ $ $ so I am looking for a way to make a target that is not very expensive and also does not take up much space. I also have to carry my targets a decent distance to where I will be practicing so weight does come into play. Any ideas from urban archers?

I appreciate it!

Mounting and lighting indoor 4×4 target

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hey everyone,

I’m about to start working on finishing my basement, and I’m planning to include a 10-yard practice range. My local pro shop is going to sell me one of their used 4′x4′ target blocks so I’m going to build it into the outside wall of the bedroom at one end of the basement. I can stand at the other end of the basement and get a couple shooting lanes going.

The target block is 18" deep so I’m thinking I’ll build a shelf into the framing for the new wall and eventually build a cabinet around the block so I can close it up when not in use. I’m leaning toward doing a built-in bookshelf on the rest of the wall to roughly match the extra depth that the target will require. I think it would be really cool to have it hidden from sight and then revealed by opening the cabinet. I really want it to look nice whether the cabinet is open or closed.

My question is about lighting. I set up a little 18"x18" target on a shelf tonight and found that the bare bulbs on the ceiling were a problem. The glare really messed with the lens in my scope. I cut a couple small pieces of cardboard and hung them from some nails in front of the two bulbs and that seems to have done the trick. Not a good long-term solution though.

I want to make sure the target block is really well lit so I’m wondering about using some LED rope lighting all the way around the perimeter of the cabinet and hidden from view when at the shooting line. That should eliminate shadows, but I’m not sure if the lighting would be even enough.

What kind of lights should I use in the rest of the room? With an 8-foot ceiling I’m afraid the glare would be a problem, and I doubt my wife would approve of hanging the cardboard up there permanently. Would recessed lighting be better? Maybe I could do lights on the walls and avoid the ceiling glare. Maybe some combination of dimmers and turning off some lights between the shooting line and the target would do it.

Any other ideas?

Clean target problems

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I went out today to shoot and thought I would try something different.
So, I clipped a paper armadillo target on my usual stuff it type target.
I couldn’t focus on it! The target is for rifles and it’s just a solid light gray armadillo
on typing paper. No texture or lines or anything. My first shot missed the whole
paper high and left at about 20 yards. Second shot I moved closer and
drilled it. Now I had a hole in the paper to focus on and put 3 shots in about a
golf ball size around the first hole back at about 20 yards. I then decided to shoot
at a blank area on the target and another clean miss. Soon as I finally hit the area,
I started grouping well again.

Anybody experienced this?
Any advice how to stop this?
Thanks!

Target frames

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I am in the process of designing steel pipe target frames which will be used for an outdoor range. I need some opinions on whether I should use 1" or 2" pipe for the frame. These frames will be for bag targets. I will be setting the frames in concrete as to make them a permanent fixture.

DIY Broadhead target ideas??

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hi Guys, there are some great threads on here about making a DIY target for shooting target arrows. We now need a good thread resource for a DIY Broadhead target.

ThirdHandArchery has nice skins that would work great and the general design of the timber frame with skins on the outside will be awesome.

What we need to know is what filling to use for a broadhead target. The broadheads need to come out the back side without burying the vanes so the broadheads can be unscrewed and the arrows pulled out.

If you have had success with this please post your results here.
