A thumb release cures target panic?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

OK so I’ll admit it…with my wrist release I had developed a case of target panic…I’d like to think it was mild, or really can be called punching the index trigger. Some days were better than others. I heard about people switching to hinged or thumb to try to fix it so I went and bought a thumb release. I shot with the thumb for a good month and was shooting pretty well. I kept the trigger pull heavy to make it more of a back tension release. Probably never really achieved it though. I never felt super comfortable with my draw length/anchor with the thumb but I stopped punching the trigger. I thought this is great I’m a thumb guy now, but due to my DL being a little off with the thumb anchor I was torquing my grip to the left. In order to see if it was the release or the bow set up I switched back to my wrist to see if the grip torque would improve. First shot bullseye, second shot touching…moved back to 30 and 40 yards same thing…holy crap I’m cured…been shooting with my old wrist release for a few days and now better than ever. No more punching the trigger. Just thought I’d share if someone was having trouble trigger punching their wrist release what worked for me. I’m going back to my wrist release but I think I’ll keep training off and on with thumb release just to prevent TP from coming back. Hope that helps someone.

Would putting a deer target in the backyard make using a deer decoy ineffective?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’d like to get a deer target like a Mckenzie and put it in my backyard. However, my backyard is where the deer are. I wouldn’t want to put a deer target in the backyard all year long and have the deer become accustom to it and then ignore the deer decoy when I put it out during hunting season.

Would putting a deer target out in the back yard cause deer to become acclimated to the deer target and thus cause them to ignore the deer decoy that I put out during the hunting season?

Anyone else have this problem?

Shopping for a new bow where target bows are rare…

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hello all,
First post and hoping for some insight. Ive been doing Barebow recurve on a Sage for months, and hoping to invest in a more serious compound setup. Most people will say go down to your proshops and shoot, but there’s not many options for. The stores that are within my area only carry middle range hunting bows, and I have my eye on a higher end target bow like the Supra or Deliminator. The stores will order them in for me, but it’s not like I can just pass on the bow if I don’t like it, or that I"ll be able to compare bows . How do others in my situation shop? I’m also left handed and Canadian, so buying bows is even harder, 2nd hand seems impossible.

Also, anyone have any tips for going recurve to compound?

Thanks

Newbie: Bohning Blazer or X Vanes Shield Cut for indoor target shooting?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Even something as simple as a vane has innumerable choices, which as a newbie, makes it difficult to make a decision, so I’m looking for your assistance.

My usage will be for indoor target shooting at 20 yards. (I prefer to shoot at the NFAA five spot target.) Occasionally I will shoot an outdoor 3D course.

I’ve narrowed it down to Bohning’s Blazer or X Vanes Shield Cut.

According to the website, the Blazer is "designed for fixed blade broad heads, but great for crossbows and 3D archery." Also: "We recommend fletching the BlazerĀ® vanes helically for perfect results."

Whereas the X Vanes Shield Cut is "designed for target archery." However there was no mention of recommended fletching. And there is no indication of which of the three profiles I should choose (1.5” Shield Cut, 1.75” Shield Cut, and 2.25” Shield Cut)

I thought the Blazers would be a good choice because practically every archer at the range appears to be using it. However according to the website the X Vanes Shield Cut appears to be more suited to my usage.

Bow is compound, DW is 40-to-50#. Arrow is Gold Tip, carbon, 0.003, cut to 27" — I don’t have its other specs at this time. Arrows will have a 85 grain target point, and pointed nocks.

ETA: I doubt I will notice the difference regardless of which one I choose. I’m asking more for the thought process behind choosing a vane.

What is your Target Panic solution

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Many of us have or had bouts of Target Panic, and for many causes. I don’t believe there is a general, try this or that and you are cured. And many of us have success stories and methods that have worked. Also many of us have had Target Panic in different forms. So I thought it might be a great assistance to everyone if you post what you feel has helped you. Lets not bicker over whose method is better or worse, we’re all built differently and wired differently. But I hope along the way we can help each other out. I guess I’ll start.

For me it’s simple, once I hit my sight picture and anchor, I would shoot. Some would say that is snap shooting, but for me it was lack of control and anxiety over build up of aiming. What helped me was to program my mind that I didn’t need to shoot as soon as the anchor/sight picture was achieved. I did it by weeks of not firing a single arrow. I put up a playing card on the basement wall, nocked an arrow and drew to anchor. I was hoping that my apprehension of not putting an arrow through the wall would help, lol. I never fired an arrow, just drew back, anchored and watched my sight picture, allowed my to focus on how I felt at anchor, and give me a clear sight picture. I’m a gap/split shooter and at the end of 2 weeks of just staring at the wall so to speak, I became calmer. almost as if I wasn’t doing anything, if that makes sense, while at anchor. I took it next to the outdoors, started every session with just drawing/anchoring and the best way to explain it is as if I put all my thoughts away and just stare at he sight picture, I don’t try to force anything, just let it happen.

Target limbs poundage on hoyt tiburon 2014 riser

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I couldn`t get clear information. Different answers on different sources. Anyone has experience?

I need to know the poundage change of hoyt f7 limbs on 21“ hoyt tiburon 2014 formula riser.

hoyt f7 short, medium and large limbs. Does the poundage change differ on each different limb length?

Also What is best for someone with 28“ draw?
Short limbs ok? or mediums for both hunting and target practice 3d?
short limbs + 21“ riser makes 62“ bow. MEdiums 64“ and large limbs make 66“ bow.
