Got out for an early morning sit with a friend of mine. He got his first turkey, and I hit one high and it got away.

My property is all young pine trees, not big in thickness or tall enough for a ladder or climber. Not really a good spot for a ground blind either and im just not super comfortable shooting a bow out of one.
Have just been sort of making my own blinds, or sitting behind cover so far this year but havent had any luck. Obviously i need to make sure my scent and wind are taken care of, but is this just a lost cause? Should i just figure out a way to make a ground blind work even if its is just in the middle of a food plot?

I just returned from a very cold hunting trip in Nebraska. My success in staying warm was better than my hunting results, so I choose to dwell on the mundane of what I wore (too many layers) and how to improve. Thankfully my failure on the hunt itself wasn’t due to a missed shot…..
Anyway, Saturday started at ~10 degrees F and -1 windchill. I managed to sit in the stand for the entire day (~11 hours). Here is what I wore:
Feet – two pairs of wool socks, Lacrosse 1600 Alphaburly Pros, BootSuits and a handwarmer inside each boot
Legs – Kuiu Merino base, Sitka Merino Core, Sitka Dakota pants and Fanatic bibs
Top – Kuiu Merino base (x2), Sitka LW Crew SS, Sitka Core Heavyweight Zip-T, Kuiu Super Down Vest, Marmot Trail Wind Jacket, Sitka Fanatic Hoody, Sitka Incinerator Jacket
Misc – Sitka Fanatic Beanie and Gloves, Incinerator Muff (with two hand warmers) and Neck Gator
I don’t think that I need to make any changes other than to the upper body, as 8 layers is ridiculous – the chore in getting dressed, and the challenge in venting the many layers. Some former military buddies who were hunting with me suggested a heavier Merino base layer to replace several layers, so I’ve been looking at the heaviest base or mid-layers made by WoolX, Woolpower (Ullfrotte) and FirstLite. I’m leaning towards the Woolpower 600g top. Any thoughts on this or the other brands, and how many of the above layers I could eliminate?
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

Anyone have success with a electronic or string operated Turkey Decoy? Like the Mojo Quarter Pounder? Or tying fishing line to a decoy?
And if so, was it a certain time of the season or month?

Well, our 2016 Ontario bear hunt was an epic success. We had 8 hunters in our camp and we had 4 nice bears down the first day, with every hunter tagged out in 3 days! The outfitter we used was nothing short of amazing and we felt like family soon after we arrived. The first picture was my 275lb boar and the second was my good friend’s 311lb boar. I’m pretty sure we’ll be going back in a couple of years for another bear hunting trip. The fishing was great as well and we were able to eat fish every night we were there.

I killed this black bear last Thursday at 11:45AM with Wilderness Family Outfitters located on Wollaston Lake in Northern Saskatchewan. I shot him from the ground at 7 yards with my recurve. The bait had two large boars on it in the past week, one black and one cinnamon. This bear was not one of them. After comparing the scars on the bear we called Angus to the one I killed, it was obvious it was a new bear on the bait. It scaled at 336 pounds, squared over 7 feet and has a B&C skull. This is the second book bear I have taken in this concession in only two trips there. The last one scored 18 15/16" and I took it in 2013. Head guide Jim Brennan is in the center photo with me and lodge owner Ruben Reddekopp is in the other.

1st time in a long time I actually hunted by myself on opening day (usually calling for my son or someone else). But my son was at school and I went by myself. Really wish he had been there because we might have been able to double up again. When I figure out how to post video I will put it up. 11" beard – 1" spurs. Ramcats and Dave Smith decoys equal bad medicine..
