With all the rain early and tons of heat the beans (and corn) are doing amazingly well here in Iowa this year. What that means to us bowhunters is that the protein and carbs will be there in spades and the deer can travel when ever they want and still be almost completely covered up.
Not hard to see what mini "kill" plots aren’t much use here in Iowa when your whole state is food plot. Here are a couple of pics to show what I mean. Now neither deer is has a huge body but still, see how well covered even a 3 year old buck is, and this is just the beans!

We have a local outdoor trap and archery club that has been undergoing a major upgrade. I convinced the board that we should purchase some Pacific Bow Butts 48"x 31" targets and the stands. We only had the funds for 4 targets and last night the club got them set up. Due to the fact that we want to get a league started with only 4 targets, I suggested that we set them out at yardages of 20, 30, 40, 50. One of the board members who is barely an archer thought we should start at 10 and go to 40. I pushed for starting at 20 yards because I felt that with only 4 targets, 10 yards would be a waste for most guys and a 50 yard target would provide a challenge that would encourage everyone to stretch their ability and improve their skills. I could only be there long enough to help get flags set up for positioning each butt, but we set them out starting at 20 yards. The next morning I went to check on their placement and found that they were set at 10 to 40. I am not crying that I didn’t get my way, but the whole league thing is in my lap and I want to make a good range from what limited resources we have.

Give me your honest opinions. If you were looking for a new club and league to shoot with, would you rather go with 10-40 or 20-50? If I am thinking incorrectly, I want to hear from others. If I am correct, I would like the opinions of others so I may be able to convince the board to make a slight change. Don’t hold off if I am wrong in my thinking; it’s all about making the best use of what we have for now. Maybe later we can get another target, but for now we need to make the best use of what we have.

STUPID NOOB QUESTION: Overbowed?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey guys — absorbing a lot of uber-wisdom here on the forum. Thanks for a great resource.

So here is one stupid noob question. My draw weight right now is about 65 pounds. It is not hard to draw, but after a couple hours at the range, my left arm is getting fatigued, leading to accuracy problems over and above those I would associate just with being a noob. I am getting some good groupings, but after a while, things kind of go down the toilet due to left/bow hand instability.

I am a short guy at 5’6", but lift a lot and go about 180. Farmer carries, flies, some pretty heavy rowing and lots of the shoulder stuff I figure would mean this is not so much of a strength thing as a technique problem. I have shot only a couple of times. There are I am sure very specific core muscle groups that need to balance each other out for consistent accuracy, and I am equally sure those things will come with more time.

Does it make sense to spend a couple bucks to knock back the draw weight, or do you think it makes more sense to spend a few bucks to have someone at the range work with me on my form? I have absorbed a lot of stuff, including proper grip and rotation of the bow arm here already. But you don’t know what you are doing wrong until someone who has some competence gives you a kick in the butt.

Thanks in advance.
