Replace my string?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I recently picked up a 2009 Bowtech Sniper. The bow and string are in like new condition. There is no fuzzing on the string or fraying.Servings show no wear. But it is six years old.
So before I get it all set up and tuned should I just throw a new set on?

Do you always aim in anticipation of deer jumping the string?

Or when the yardage gets to a certain distance do you start aiming lower in anticipation of a drop? If so, at what distance?

How much string stretch with temperature is normal?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

It’s hot, things expand. It’s cold ,things shrink and tighten. I get it.
I have sighted my bow in at 50-55 degrees. I went out this AM at 33 degrees and I’m shooting 2 inches high at 30 and 4 inches high at 40.
I expected some change as the string shrank, but that seemed excessive.
Strings are 452x.

rpm 360 stock string vs vapor trail vtx

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

ok here is the deal. brand new bow and g5 peep started to cut the string. ordered new string from vapor trail (vtx) with rubber speed balls in same place as stock string.

chrono bow five times with stock string and peep
mark cams to ensure same length of new string
install vapor trail string and twist untwist to get cams at same position
install peep in same place (new one)
BOW SHOOTS 12 FPS SLOWER

i have not moved rubber speed balls yet – just wanted some options first

thanks

How long does your string last?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

So the string on my old Browning is fraying…again. I got the bow as a loaner and it came with a string that was kind frayed already, so I bought a new string at the local shop and had it restrung. That was just in early December last year. Now its just April and its started fraying again.

The part where it frays is about 6 inches away from the serving area, so I’m pretty sure its not rubbing on anything. The string came waxed, and I diligently applied wax to it every 3 weeks. The only things I changed on the string would be to increase the brace height from 7.75 to 9 inches. This is where the bow seems to be quietest. Heck, with this brace height, its even quieter now than when I put in those little wooly puffs!

Anyways, my question is…how often do you guys have to change strings due to fraying? I’ve unstrung the bow now (I usually leave it strung and sitting horizontally in a rack on the wall), but if I were to string it, would the string snap? Would it snap whilst shooting?

‘Frayed so…bow string issues

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’ve been shooting a Ben Pearson Cougar that is marked as 45# at 28". I have a 30-ish inch draw (I’m still on the steep part of the learning curve, so this is in flux).

I am going through bow strings like crazy. The bow is fraying them at the top. I have checked on line and done searches on this forum for repair options. I have done some fine sanding, though have not yet refinished.

Some questions:
1. What sort of finish should I put on the freshly sanded tips?
2. Is a heat shrink style tip protector UNDER the string an option?

Thanks for your suggestions and tips.

- Zurf

p.s. I am planning a trip to Lancaster Archery Supply in a couple weeks, where I do intend to pick up a new bow that is both longer and lower in draw weight than the Ben Pearson Cougar. It just galls me to have a piece of outdoor equipment that isn’t working properly.
