Well, I’ve been wanting to get back into archery for some time now & recently got a new bow. It’s nothing fancy, just a single string on a simple bow, not even a re-curve, but it fits my size & has a good feel to it.
But it came with a puzzling inclusion…a sight.
Now like I said, back in my youth I didn’t care about targets, but my dad did try to teach me some basic aiming technique. What I’ve retained of his instructions is "focus on the target & aim along the arrow". Simple enough right? (not that I practiced aiming enough to be good at it)
So basically I have no idea how I would even aim with a sight! In fact my first thought about it was "a sight on a bow? blasphemy! get the holy water!".
However, after that my second thought was "well maybe I should try it. it’s like a gun sight right?" but I got to looking at it and I’m just confused about how it works.
I’m not sure what type of sight it is exactly, it just has one pin, it looks sort of like a front sight from a rifle (the old fashioned kind that is a rod with a ball tip) only horizontal instead of vertical. The pin has threads and a flat end, which I presume is for adjustment. The whole pin assembly goes on a sort of bar on the front of the bow & can slide up & down the bar. I’ve tried searching online, but all the ones I find have multiple pins and/or circle things around the pins, my sight doesn’t have a circle thing, just a horizontal pin.
The problem for me is that I have no idea how to even reference the sight for shooting. I am used to using a gun, sights are easy with a gun, there’s two of them, you line them up, you put them on your target.
This bow sight tho, there’s just the one pin, what the heck do I line that up with?
I’m very confused by this whole sight thing, a have zero clue how I would aim with it at all. I need help.
If anyone could give me instructions on how this sight works that would be great. An illustration or a video or photo with a POV angle showing what my view should look like when shooting with the sight in the correct place, would especially be appreciated.
Thanks in advance. 🙂

Getting back into bow hunting and currently have a 3 pin Copper John sight. Still practicing and getting more comfortable but have been thinking about switching to a single pin bow sight. Any advise would be greatly appreciated. I have been searching on this forum but haven’t yet found a legit 1 vs 3 pin sight comparison. If I missed it, I apologize and will continue to look.
Thanks y’all!

I have gotten a new bow this past weekend, mathews chill x and we did paper tuning from about 5 yards and it shot bullets.
When I get home I go to shoot and my arrow is high and to the left by about a foot. I can almost correct the left and right issues, but to do this I have to max out my elevation and windage settings on the housing of my sight. What are your suggestions to correct this issue, could thus be a rest tuning issye, a sight issue, etc.
Any help is much appreciated!
Also the sight is a large (2 inch) spot hogg hunter 5 pin

Friend of mine gave it to me, he said he didn’t need it, and was just going to throw it away. I am curious if it is worth putting on my bow? Currently I have a little $ 30 Tru Glo 4 pin sight from 2009. Nothing fancy but it works, my complaint is the Fiber optics are not at all bright.
The fiber optics on this sight are a little damaged and not that bright so I am curious if it worth trying to replace them and see if they are any brighter than my current one? Can I buy parts for this sight? The "tool less" adjustment knobs are a little beat up and if possible Id like to find new ones. It also needs the screws to mount it to the bow.
Is this sight worth trying to spend a few dollars on or should I keep it as a backup?
