Questions for IBO longbow shooting

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Well…after a long agonizing not 100% sure of what the heck I was doing. ..I finally took the leap..and jumped at a early vacated much coveted spot on the list for a new triple carbon longbow from Centaur. .Thank You Jim…

Now..I know it is not a d shaped bow…and I am primarily a carbon arrow shooter…but I do want to go to some of the shoots this coming year..like down at the Trad Worlds and some of the regional shoots….maybe others..time & money depending. .

So..where does this combination fit into the various classes? I know it’s not the traditional class. .but I am unsure what distances and types of bows I’ll be competing with. .

Since I am going to be hunting with this rig as well…..it’s not a target weight bow . While certainly easier to use some type of formal aiming method. …I’ll be shooting this in a swing draw instinctive fashion as I am acustomed to.

How many targets for IBO shoots can I expect to shoot at, and the distances I can expect, along with the animal types.

It’s been years since I have shot in any type of formal matches and I know from reading here things have changed considerably since then.

If I do decide to shoot woodies…I’m looking at Forrester arrows..they seem to have a great following for pre made and durable shafts for this endeavor. .so other recommendations are appreciated too..

My Earl Hoyt Hunter Supreme is getting dusted off to help prepare the old muscles for the weight…I got a couple months till it’s done to prepare. .so ..what can I expect to encounter..

I just wasn’t happy inside with the ILF kit if anyone was interested…as nice as it was…as good as everything was about it for fit finish quality and shootability…i just wasnt hapoy..funny how that works. ..

Thanks guys

Mac

Women Shooting Prime Impact?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I was talking to one of our regular FITA shooters last night and she wants to jump to a compound. She had to stop shooting for a while and is ready to get back into it.

She wants one bow to shoot indoors and outdoors. She is a tall, 5′ 11" or so, physically fit woman. No need for a "girls bow" for her. She shoots 35lbs on her recurves.

We were talking and she really kind of liked the Prime Impact. 50lb limbs can be had for that setup so I don’t see weight being a problem.

Anyone know a woman shooting a Prime? Which one?

Just thinking here…..

Is Anyone Out There Shooting G5 Quest Bows ?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

We are looking for a bow for my wife and cant find hardly anything on the Quest Bliss. It looks like a pretty descent bow with good specs but can only find very little about the bow as far as reviews or anything. No dealer has one in to shoot so I was wondering if anyone has shot or has a wife that shot the Bliss so I can get there thoughts about it. My wife shot a Mission craze and said its ok,shot a Mission Menace and said its ok. Going to try a Flare and Riot tonight but would like to get some opinions on the Bliss. Thanks.
Tank.

Thumb ring inspired, two-finger shooting tabs.

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hi Folks,

I’m still pretty new to traditional archery. Never got into modern actually. I have a 50# at 28" Sky recurve. It was a challenge at first, but that’s what makes it fun.

I shoot split finger and have always used a tab or glove. When I learned about thumb rings I made one and tried it out. I liked it but I couldn’t shoot accurately, probably since the rest is on the inside.

So I made this shooting tab that I slip on my middle finger like a ring. It’s plastic and has some flex to it. I have been having so much fun with it I had to post it up here.

I scoured the internet to see if it’s been done before but it seems this might be original, aside from the fact it’s really just a modified thumb ring that goes on your middle finger.

I shoot middle finger under, index finger over, and made the following conclusions after weeks, and hundreds of arrows, alternating between gloves and tabs.

  • Total finger protection.
  • Zero discomfort. I could shoot all day long.
  • Consistent and fast releases. The string seems to slide off the slick surface with zero twist, but I have never once felt it might get away from me.
  • Simple, cheap, and non-intrusive. You forget you have it on.
  • Possibly hard on the serving material…

Also below is a leather version which I have seen on the internet but not a one finger design. It works well too, but I like the plastic ring better.

Pre shooting warm up … do you or don’t you

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve been asked by my archery club coaches to put together a warm up program for our junior archers. The reasoning behind the request is to prepare the archers for their shooting sessions and of course reduce the potential risk of injury. To prepare the program, I’ve been looking through the published medical literature to identify any specific warm up activities and their effectiveness in reducing injury. There’s a conflict of opinion within the medical literature as to the effectiveness of warm ups but there’s a growing consensus that sport specific warm up exercises improve performance.
So, although there may not be definitive evidence to support the use of warm ups to prevent injury, there’s an accepted conventional wisdon that warm ups have no negative connotations.
The question I’d like to ask here is, …. do you warm up before shooting?, if you do, what benefit to you derive from it? If you don’t warm up, I’d like to ask why not?
Be interested in your comments.

First time shooting sightless

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hello everyone! I’m still new here. I used to shoot a 45# Bear recurve similar to this one, but not exactly(it was like 12 years ago…). I became extremely proficient over the course of a long summer in the back yard, putting 4 arrow groupings in a soda can hung in the middle of a bail of straw at 35 yards. Thing was, I always used a set of sights(15yds, 25yds, 35yds).

Now recently I have gotten back into the hobby. I found a cheap 40# PSE Stalker. I’m honestly not as fond of the takedown design as I was with the solid one piece design of my old bow, but it seems to shoot well, so it will be a great starter. This time around I am teaching myself to shoot sightless, and what is happening seems very weird…

At 15 yards, I HAVE TO resort to 3U, instead of split finger, just to have the target inside my sight-view(I guess thats what it’s called). If I try to shoot split finger, then the target is behind the upper limb. And the really weird part is, whether I shoot from 15, 25, or 35 yards, I always have to aim the EXACT same way. If I adjust for longer distance, I overshoot. So every shot I take at any of those distances, the tip of my arrow is the same "gap" under the target to hit.

My best guess is either I have some mystical arrows with a wonderfully flat trajectory, or else I am minutely adjusting my draw length without realizing it(instinctively??). Any ideas or tips?

***BTW I read of this forum a tip about angling your fingers down 30 degrees when you shoot 3U, and WOW that works great.

bareshaft tuning a sage shooting 3 under?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

As a newb I have been watching and reading like crazy over the last few weeks on archery. I have not found anything on bareshaft tuning with a 3 under shooting style. How will this affect my results. If someone knows a good link that would be appreciated. I have a 45# sage with a 26 1/4 drawlength. Figure on 500 -600 shaft but would like to shoot the heaviest feasible broadhead for deer ( 165 to 175 grains I’m guessing). Any input is greatly appreciated.
