Tuned bow shooting left, sight maxed out

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I just purchased a new (used) elite judge. I put on the ripcord arrow rest and had it tuned at a local shop. Yesterday I put on my Spot Hogg sight and took it to the range to sight it in. I was shooting about a foot left, I gang adjusted the pins all the way to the left and it is finally hitting accurately. I had the sight attached to a bowtech sniper before switching to the elite and it wasn’t even close to being maxed out. I am curious if the bow was improperly tuned or are there any other reasons for me running out of adjustment. Thanks

Questions About “Stump” Shooting

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Slowly but surely the weather is getting better. I’m getting comfortable with my bow and soon I’d love to start roving.

While I love loosing arrows down range I think I will have a lot of fun and get some good training value out of stump shooting.

I have looked at several posts and looked around online a bit but I’m still slightly confused.
I am unsure about what kind of points I should get. I would like something that I can use for stump shooting and hunting small game (rabbits).

Do I want a point in the same grain weight that I’m using now?

I use a Samick Phantom TD recurve.
It’s got 50# limbs @ 28".

I’m using uncut .400 spine carbon arrows with 100 grain field points at the moment. I believe they are fine enough for now while getting my form and consistency squared away. Eventually, I will get some finely tuned arrows but those can wait until I’m a little more sure about form.

Elevated/flipper rest and instinctive shooting?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’m currently in the process of getting back into archery after a number of years away from the sport. I will be shooting recurve and primarily Field, target and a bit of 3D.

Back in the day I shot mainly longbows and only instinctive. I wan’t to stay with instinctive, which (for me at least) means I will have to cant the bow to keep both eyes on the target.
Being new to recurves I know very little about arrow rests and such. As I understand it an elevated rest or a flipper rest allows for the use of plastic vanes rather than just feathers (please correct me if I’m wrong). While I’m not a huge fan of vanes aesthetically, the do seem to be a good choice in terms of durability and water resistance (I live in Scandinavia and it rains A LOT).

Will an elevated rest work properly with the bow canted? If so is there any that are better suited for this?
After quite a bit of consideration, I have decided to get either a Samick Sage or Polaris. It seems like the shelf on these is not cut very far beyond centre. Would this cause the common stick on rests to be placed to far to the left? Would something like the Cartel CR-201 or CR-301 be a better choice? They seem to place the arrow closer to centre.

Finally, would a plunger be a useful addition to any of these options?

A lot of noob questions I know, but I wan’t to get it right in as few tries as possible. And it’s better to learn from others’ knowledge than your own mistakes.

instinctive shooting at distance

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Looking for some advice from instinctive shooters on how to shoot at 80 yards.
I normally shoot 60Y max and the other day I tried 80Y and found when I looked at the target, taking it all in, when i then lifted my bow the height of my arm was such that I completely lost sight of the target so had no focus point due to my arm and hand blocking my view, yet I needed the height to reach the target. ( was shooting 45# bow )
Any advice on how to shoot such a distance???? by the way got it in the lower leg, but that was just luck. Thanks

Questions for IBO longbow shooting

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Well…after a long agonizing not 100% sure of what the heck I was doing. ..I finally took the leap..and jumped at a early vacated much coveted spot on the list for a new triple carbon longbow from Centaur. .Thank You Jim…

Now..I know it is not a d shaped bow…and I am primarily a carbon arrow shooter…but I do want to go to some of the shoots this coming year..like down at the Trad Worlds and some of the regional shoots….maybe others..time & money depending. .

So..where does this combination fit into the various classes? I know it’s not the traditional class. .but I am unsure what distances and types of bows I’ll be competing with. .

Since I am going to be hunting with this rig as well…..it’s not a target weight bow . While certainly easier to use some type of formal aiming method. …I’ll be shooting this in a swing draw instinctive fashion as I am acustomed to.

How many targets for IBO shoots can I expect to shoot at, and the distances I can expect, along with the animal types.

It’s been years since I have shot in any type of formal matches and I know from reading here things have changed considerably since then.

If I do decide to shoot woodies…I’m looking at Forrester arrows..they seem to have a great following for pre made and durable shafts for this endeavor. .so other recommendations are appreciated too..

My Earl Hoyt Hunter Supreme is getting dusted off to help prepare the old muscles for the weight…I got a couple months till it’s done to prepare. .so ..what can I expect to encounter..

I just wasn’t happy inside with the ILF kit if anyone was interested…as nice as it was…as good as everything was about it for fit finish quality and shootability…i just wasnt hapoy..funny how that works. ..

Thanks guys

Mac

Women Shooting Prime Impact?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I was talking to one of our regular FITA shooters last night and she wants to jump to a compound. She had to stop shooting for a while and is ready to get back into it.

She wants one bow to shoot indoors and outdoors. She is a tall, 5′ 11" or so, physically fit woman. No need for a "girls bow" for her. She shoots 35lbs on her recurves.

We were talking and she really kind of liked the Prime Impact. 50lb limbs can be had for that setup so I don’t see weight being a problem.

Anyone know a woman shooting a Prime? Which one?

Just thinking here…..
