how do you shoot w/o a peepsight? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I don’t mean how do you aim.

I’m referring to the string blocking my vision of my sight directly ahead.

I have the retina lock so a peep isn’t critical, but my retinalock is in the center of the sight, and the string covers my view of it…

3D Shoot Question #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

New to the game so don’t mind the novice ??.

I went to the local range for the first time yesterday and the score card has a 10-8-5-0. Is it 10 for the small circle(about 1.5") 8 for the next circle (4") and 5 for the next. It seemed weird that you could hit in the insert area and get 0 points as the third ring was normally oblong but not the whole size of what I would call the kill zone.

Why can’t I shoot a target accurately? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’ve been shooting a bow my whole life and would consider myself a fairly good shooter, not great or a pro by any means. My issue is not being able to shoot a target consistently. When I shoot a 3-D target I’m always right on the money and if im trying to shoot a group they’re all right there together and exactly where I aim. The problem though, is when I try to shoot a circle on a target or something like a Vegas or 5-Spot target i can’t shoot worth crap. I shot a 5-Spot the other day and ended up with something in the high 260′s or low 270′s and 20 some X’s. (I cant remember the exact numbers). Does anyone have any ideas why I’m struggling or any tips? Thanks.

Insert Removal- heated too much and got some carbon, safe to shoot?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I had some arrows that had the insert glued in only half way ( I was not using these). I heated up a filed tip in a vice with a torch not to the point that it was red but got it hot enough to melt the glue, screwed it on to the arrow and pulled the insert out. I notice a sleeve of carbon that cam out as well. are these still safe to shoot? should I cut the tip off where the carbon unraveled? Thanks for the help picture below

Deer Management: When to shoot does?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Ok I was just reading a thread and someone posted they see these nice 2.5-3.5 yo deer every year then pass them and not see them the next year. I got to thinking a few things could be in play here.
1) Deer shot by other hunters(doubtful as this guy said he had control of 900 acres)
2) Dominant buck pushed them out
3) Does aren’t there to keep the bucks around
4) Lack of Food Habitat
We can improve food and habitat, and we can control doe population
I think most would say you need to shoot does to keep your ratio closer to 1:1
Now that makes your bucks need to be looking for does and competition is high
Unfortunately maybe they go looking elsewhere for does and not on your property.
In my mind I want as many does on my property during hunting season to keep the bucks around.
I generally try to shoot does after the rut/breeding takes place.
I see on most hunting shows guys taking does early season.
Hmmm…which way is correct? For those guys who manage property what do you do?
Shoot your does early or late?

First Club Shoot

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

So, my 11 year-old son and I are going to our first club shoot on Saturday. We’re pretty excited. Just trimmed up a couple sets of new arrows tonight and we’ll get some more practice in on Thursday after school.

I’ve had my 2009 Elite XLR since January and have really liked shooting it. Haven’t shot from 40 until last Saturday though. I managed to hit the target with all my arrows, so I’m hoping I won’t embarrass myself! Lol

Just wondering if y’all have any tips for first time shooters at a field archery shoot?

Where to shoot a Tom

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

My 14 year old daughter and I had our first turkey hunt last spring. To make a long story short, we had a blast but she shot a Tom in the side and got very little penetration. The bird ran off with the arrow dragging as it ran. It looks to me that she hit a big wing bone(there was a feather laying there) and that kind of stopped the penetration. She is shooting a Bear Apprentice 2 at 43lbs and a slick trick 100 gr head. My question is what part of the birds anatomy would she be better off trying to shoot at? (instead of a side shot).
