Prime Centergy initial set-up #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Just took possession of a Prime Centergy. Not my first Prime, but I am having a few set up issues right out of the gate.

1)I understand to time the cams, the stops need to be set all the way to the back position. When I do this on the Centergy, the stops still don’t quite touch after the cam rolls over and it is at full draw. I really have to pull into the back wall to get the stops to set but it actually feels like it’s at full draw about 1/8" off the stops. Is this normal? My Rival and Alloy never did this.

2)The ATA of the bow is at 33.5" but the manual says it should be 33.25". That is a ton of slack to take up in the cables from my experience. Anyone else finding their numbers off by this much or is it just my bow?

Suggestions for Sitka Setup – Hunting Texas #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I live and hunt in the hill country of Central Texas. I’m interested in investing in a new Sub Alpine Sitka setup. The temperatures here range from high 30’s -50’s, usually with a breeze. Hunting is done mainly in ground blinds with some occasional stalking.

My first thought was:
Mountain Jacket for wind
Marino wool or Sitka Traverse hoody for first layer.

I would like to hear your suggestions.

Also, is Sitka meant to run snug? I’m 5’11 and right at 200 lbs. Typically I wear a large but the Traverse fit pretty snug.

Thanks in advance,

Brandon

Easiest to setup single pin sight?? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hey there, I was wondering your opinions which single pin sight is the easiest or not too difficult to setup? which brands in do you use and how hard was it to setup your 20, 30, 40, etc. I’m going to be using it for hunting but mostly target shooting too. Any tips or advice would be great. Thanks everyone.

Jamie

Who shoots a setup with less than 70 ft lbs of ke? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Sometimes when I’m on here it feels like I have the wimpiest bow around. But, heck it seems to me like it should be pretty middle of the road. 330 IBO speed, 27.5 inch DL, 65 lbs draw weight with a 416 grain arrow. The only thing that is very far below average is my DL, but still, it’s not like it’s waaaay short. With all this I’m generating about 65 ft lbs of ke. Best case scenario is I crank my draw weight up to 70 and then I’m getting about 70 ft lbs of ke. Seems like almost everyone on here is shooting bows in the 80s and even 90 ft lbs range. Is anyone else shooting a little girly bow that only gets into the 60-70 ft lbs of ke range?

New bow doesn’t seem to be setup right…

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Granted I’m new to all this archery stuff, but just from what I’ve learned so far on here from you guys I have a lot of questions/concerns about the way the local shop set up my bow. Bow is a new Hoyt Defiant 34.

First of all, I am constantly fighting my peep rotating to the left on me. Shop guy says this is normal and I have to "train" my string by by rotating it back before every shot. But no matter how much I rotate it it still doesn’t stay lined up after I draw back.

Second, and I think this is compounding my peep rotation issue, is the way my D loop is is tied on. Its this right? The top and bottom knots are different, and both the top and bottom of the loop are coming off the same side of the string. I thought the loop was supposed to cross the string with the knots being on either side.

Third, my rest is not mounted level. It is actually tilted forward quite a bit. This doesn’t seem right to me?

Fourth, my arrow appears to be riding very high compared to the Berger hole. Kinda hard to tell but the bottom of the arrow is either in line with the top edge of the hole or completely above the hole altogether.

Sorry in that last pic I forgot to pull down on my rest cord, but you get the idea. In all of these pics the bow is as level as I can get it with my bow jack and holding a level against the string.

I have about 200-250 shots on the bow. Just had it in the shop for a "check-up" and the guy there (different guy than the one who set it up) said everything was fine and he’s the one who said what I wrote above about the peep rotating.

What do you guys think? Am I wrong here or are these things just not right?

3d arrow setup

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’m in for a new 3d setup. I have shot X-Ringers in the past with OK results. I noticed some problems at the 40+ yard prairie shots in the wind. I am debating on trying a micro shaft, the gold tip pierces. I’m not sure how much I am gaining in wind resistance, whilst giving up the arrow diameter.

I also would like to have the micros too shoot a couple of field-style tournaments as well as a 70 yard indoor tourny.

I am also considering trying the series 22s.

What say you?

Thanks!!

treestand setup ???

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

i hung a stand today in a tree on a field edge for late season. i looked the woodline over yesterday and settled on this tree due to some sign and the available cover. i have a bloodsport and 6 sticks, so i go to hang them today. get to about the 18 ft mark on the tree, hang the last stick to make it 20 and then pull up the stand. go to set the stand on the tree and a large knot that sticks out about 3 inches or so keeps me from hanging the stand. im a little po’d but i get over it and climb down and readjust the sticks to the back of the tree so now i sit parallel to the field instead of head on like i wanted, and more than likely, i will have to stand to shoot instead of staying seated like i wanted. hang the stand up and get down and walk out about 15 yds or so, look at it, and im just not happy with it, looks like it sits about 12-15 ft now instead of my 20 that i wanted.

here is my question…

i have another spot that i hunt on my farm that is a late season spot like this one, should i move my stand over there and get the full 20 ft or so out of it, or leave the stand where it is at about 15 ft and run the risk of being able to be spotted a little easier? the available cover is still there in the other spot.

thanks.
