Ring Finger and back tension release

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I have a HBC and a Longhorn Pro BT releases. Everything works great when my hands are dry. When its hot and humid my hands sweat and I have a problem with my ring finger sliding bye my middle finger. I have tried all sorts of things. I have put slippery tape on my fingers and that even made it worse. Tried baby powder and that works somewhat if i put some on before every other shot. Latest thing was to use some lip bomb grease and rub some on before shots. The grease works but what a pain to deal with. Besides that it ends up getting on my other fingers and then I feel like the release could actually slip off my trigger finger holding the BT release. I could go to a thumb release or trigger wrist strap release but i sure shoot the BT style better. The condition is a bit worse with the HBC over the longhorn . When the ring finger won’t naturally go bye the middle finger i have to force it a bit which in turn prematurally sets the release off on a occasion. Can’t have this for sure. Any one ever have this problem?????

Thumb ring inspired, two-finger shooting tabs.

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hi Folks,

I’m still pretty new to traditional archery. Never got into modern actually. I have a 50# at 28" Sky recurve. It was a challenge at first, but that’s what makes it fun.

I shoot split finger and have always used a tab or glove. When I learned about thumb rings I made one and tried it out. I liked it but I couldn’t shoot accurately, probably since the rest is on the inside.

So I made this shooting tab that I slip on my middle finger like a ring. It’s plastic and has some flex to it. I have been having so much fun with it I had to post it up here.

I scoured the internet to see if it’s been done before but it seems this might be original, aside from the fact it’s really just a modified thumb ring that goes on your middle finger.

I shoot middle finger under, index finger over, and made the following conclusions after weeks, and hundreds of arrows, alternating between gloves and tabs.

  • Total finger protection.
  • Zero discomfort. I could shoot all day long.
  • Consistent and fast releases. The string seems to slide off the slick surface with zero twist, but I have never once felt it might get away from me.
  • Simple, cheap, and non-intrusive. You forget you have it on.
  • Possibly hard on the serving material…

Also below is a leather version which I have seen on the internet but not a one finger design. It works well too, but I like the plastic ring better.

Thumb ring draw, and arrow spine.

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Recently I had a chance to try a thumb ring draw. It was a different ball game!
Yesterday, I got a cheap horse bow Samick SKB 60# @30" and I am eager to try thumb ring. But I don’t have any clue whether I need to start from 60+ or 60-. I think somebody told me I have to start with overspined arrows.

Does anyone familiar with thumb ring archery?
