QAD Ultra Rest Hunter – Cold weather issues #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I have tried 2 QAD drop away rests over the last 5 years and both have had issues once the weather drops below freezing with not dropping away either far enough or quickly enough to avoid fletching contact in hunting situations. I really like how these rests shoot for target, 3D and early season hunting, but I have no confidence once the mercury drops below 32 deg F. Is this a common problem with these rests or are their "fixes’ to make them more dependable in colder weather? I’m back to an old NAP QT800 prong rest on my Hoyt Charger due to no confidence in the drop away designs. Seems like drop away technology has been around long enough and QAD seems to be a leader for this to be a non-issue. Please adviseĀ…

Paper tear help. Right tear. Do I move cable guard or rest? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I am confused about approaching paper tuning when I see multiple solutions to similar problems.
Below is my current paper tear pattern picture.

Bow Elite Ritual 35, 60# 29" draw
Arrows are four fletch, GT Velocity 340, 28 inch, 130 grain target point

The bow was tuned by the dealer. He set the center point with some sort of laser attached to string that projected down the shaft.
Thus, I have not touch the rest settings. I have tried to move the cable guard away from the arrow to bring it in but it has not seemed to help much.

How do you know when to start diddling with the rest setting vs the cable guard setting when you are looking at a paper tear problem?

It came off of a Hoyt MTSport I got really cheap. No name or markings. Is it worth even $ 5 or is it just garbage can filler?

new QAD rest or new felt? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hi all

was shooting today and noticed on my QAD hunter rest the felt had worn through. I decided to remove the felt and shoot without and all arrows were dropping low plus ripping one of the vanes off my arrow! I cant imagine such as small change could create clearance problems with the rest to rip one vane off.:mg:

I know this is not normal as the rest was doing fine. Question is, if I replace the felt is there an easy substitute I can use or is it time to get a new rest?

What do you think?

Thanks

Is there a blade rest that will hold a standard diameter shaft without vane contact?

Outsert on rest? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I just invested a bunch of money on a dozen new arrows for this year (Gold Tip, Kinetic pierce platinum, with Ethics Archery insert/outsert system) because I Im getting serious about archery again after a shot time away. Well… After shooting for a while I decided it is time to look at upgrading the bow too, in large part because the more I shoot it the more I realize my current draw length is too short. Part of what I’m dreading is having to scrap the arrows I just built because they may be too short with the increased draw length and the amount of shaft the outserts take up. They are put together with "Iron Insert Glue" so I don’t think they are coming back apart.

I’m also thinking of switching from a drop away to a whisker biscuit with the switch. This got me to thinking does anyone run their outserts onto/into their rest? If a drop away falls in the first few inches of release could you start the release on an outsert on the rest? As the rest fell while the arrow was moving forward wouldn’t the taper of the outsert just help get the clearance between the shaft and rest faster? Or if using a whisker biscuit of the outsert centered in the hole as the arrow moved forward there would be plenty of clearance between the shaft and the whiskers (obviously the fletching would still contact the rest).

I know I probably just need to suck it up and get new shafts, but this had me thinking. Any thoughts?
