I would like to try a thumb release with a wrist strap but haven’t seen one. I saw Levi Morgan hunting with what looked like one but Im not sure. Can someone give me suggestion?

Using a release to isolate form issues?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve seen it done on YouTube. Someone was comparing shooting a traditional bow with fingers vs. a mechanical release. The results were as expected; he grouped better with the release.

It got me to wondering. Could we use this to isolate form issues? Taking glove/tab errors out of the equation and focusing strictly on aiming (POA, gap, whatever you use if anything) that might help to isolate what we’re doing wrong without having to guess if our string hand was working right.

I’m considering this as a test:
Tie in a normal nocking point for finger shooting. Invert the string and tie in another set but add a "D" loop to it. Depending on which way the string is mounted, I could rather easily do an A/B comparison. If I shoot great with a release and lousy with fingers, I work on my string hand. If I group more or less the same, then I must be doing something right.

I could practice with the release until my groups were nice and tight, then knowing I have it "in me" to shoot that well, move on to finger shooting and try to replicate those same groups.

Thoughts?

Need constructive criticism on Archery Form and Release (Video)

Some details on my tendencies and gear.

Target Distance: 20 Yards

Bow: Bear Montana Longbow. (40#)

Arrows: Easton GameGetters, 500 spine. Full length shafts, 32 inches. (I was told that the spine is a bit too heavy for a 40# bow. I do plan on getting some lighter carbon arrows in the future.)

Draw Length: I believe my draw length to be around 27 to 28 inches but not 100% certain.

I tend to "cant" my bow to keep the arrow on the shelf and to get a better picture of the target.

This being my first bow, I feel like the 40# is a bit too heavy for me, but I do feel like I’ve made a lot of progress in my ability to draw it compared to the first week I owned it. Even so, I sometimes struggle to keep it drawn at full length, and my arm wobbles, usually after an hour or so of shooting.

Also, if I’m shooting at shorter distances like 10 or 5 yards, I feel like my form gets lazy and sometimes I don’t get to full draw.

Should my draw be exactly the same even if I’m shooting at short distances? Or can I ease up a bit, because the arrow doesn’t have to travel as far?

Currently I’m trying to shoot instinctively. I don’t look at my arrow, just at the target. Although when I raise my bow to shoot I am somewhat aware of where my arrow is pointed.

Thanks for your time.

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

My Scott Longhorn is starting to show signs of corrosion from sweat as I’ve been shooting this summer. I had to send a Like Mike in for warranty repair cause sweat rusted out some of the parts.

Anyone start to see release parts corroding in the summer?
