Thumb release #archery

I’m looking at making the switch from a trigger wrist release. Been looking at several different models and am wondering about opinions from those who have tried the Hot Shot Vapor and Eclipse. Any opinions?

Moving to a thumb release. Questions. #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I just picked up a thumb release and was playing with it today after many years of shooting a wrist strap. The first couple shots were scary, but I’m starting to get the hang of it after a dozen shots. Point of impact is the same which is good. I’d like to do it right and start off that way so I don’t get in any bad habits I need to break so I have a few questions.

I feel like I need a deliberate action with my thumb to get a release. Should I be pulling through the shot with my ring and middle finger to put pressure on my thumb?

I feel like the draw is shorter and am having to lean into the string. To get the anchor I feel is right, I’m having to bend my elbow more. The release has a pretty short neck. Is it common to move to a longer draw length?

Is there an anchor I should be aiming for? What feels the most natural is my index knuckle on the back of my jaw bone and my middle finger knuckle on my ear lobe.

Thanks for any input.

First release – Carter Evo & Sensation? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve been doing a huge amount of research, searching on AT, google searching and reading articles, watching videos on YouTube etc. I’ve just ordered my first bow (it’s a compound), and I’m trying to decide what release I am going to start with.

What I’ve learned most is that releases are a very personal thing.

After a lot of thought I think I might be best starting with some kind of back tension type release rather than a trigger release even though it will be more difficult. I assume it would be easier to learn now than possibly getting into some bad habits.

So my intention is to hunt eventually (Once I’m consistent and confident that I can make a good ethical shot. It would be mostly pigs and goats, a few rabbits perhaps, and if I can find somewhere to hunt them, some deer too eventually.

The idea I have at the moment is to get a release like the Carter Evolution, and when I’ve got it worked out and am shooting it consistently well at targets to then buy a Carter Sensation and practice with both, and then hunt with the Sensation since it sounds like a thumb trigger might be the more preferred option for hunting out of the two releases.

The reason for the Sensation is because my hunting will be spot and stalk so the release won’t just be clipped and hanging from a stationary bow as it might be in a blind or tree stand. I figure the open hook style would be more practical.

Does this make sense to those of you that are experienced? Given the price of releases I’d prefer to not make stupid decisions. I think the shop I go to carries both, so I can hopefully see if they fit my hand well before buying.

Look forward to hearing all your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Harder vs softer back wall for hinge release #archery

What do people prefer?
I’m pretty new to compound, so i’m just wondering what the masses like..
I have a PSE Supra Max where i changed the round cable stops with some wider flat ones, giving me a more solid back wall. I read on the reviews on the flatter cable stops that people using back tension releases prefer them, but then i read that some don’t like the limb stoppers with back tension because they need just a little bit of creep to get the hinge to go off.
Am i misunderstanding "back tension" to mean the same as hinge here? I thought that was the most used term for a hinge style release. Or do they mean a "resistance type" release?
Would i be better off with the round cable stoppers to get that little bit of creep for my hinge release?
