I want to start shooting a recurve, I need help???

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hello, my name is Ken and I am a Hunt-a-Holic, bow hunting is an important part of my life.

I have been shooting a compound bow for 25+ years. I would like to try a re-curve, but I know nothing about them. At first, I do not want to hunt with it, at least not until I feel ready (wounding animals is not acceptable to me).

1st question, will shooting a re-curve help or hurt my compound shooting??
2nd – I shoot 65 to 70 pound/ 28.5 inch draw. What sized re-curve should I look for (I think I would eventually want to hunt with it)?
3rd – Is there anything else I need to know??? ANY info will be greatly appreciated!!!
4th – Which brand of bows should I consider? which should I stay away from?

Last – if someone has a bow you want to sell and you feel your bow will fit me, please let me know

Thanks in advance for your help!!!

Need some advice refinishing my recurve bow

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hello everyone,

I have a Ben Pearson Spectre which needs to be refinished. I see this on the limbs; the outer layer is peeled off. It looks like a layer of some laminate but I don’t know what it is. Underneath you can see the smooth wood limbs:

How do I proceed? For the riser areas, I will sand and refinish simple. But for the limb areas, I am stuck. Should I sand off the shiny laminated portion so only the wood is showing? What material is it that I should use to re-seal it and get back that thick black finish? That layer is quite brittle and comes off easily with some effort.

Thanks!
Marc

edit: The bow is a great shooter @ #45! It’s perfect, no cracks, no limb twist. I just want to make it like new again.

recurve arrow setup

I am going setup some arrows for my recurve but would like some advise on what weight points work best and what spin arrow i need. I am shooting a 42" hoyt formula rx and long f7 limbs with a 29" draw. I really like the carbon one arrows and am thinking of running 120 grain ponts and spin wings or aae wavs. Is this a good idea? What spine shalft would i need?
thanks

compound bow quiver to recurve?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hi everyone,
I’ve got one question building up recently. I’ve got a SF Forged Plus riser with some nice carbon limbs set up, which I shoot instinctively (felt pads on the shelf), just for some 3D fun. Now I’d like to mount a quiver to the riser (the bow is already on the heavy side, but I’m pumpin’, so no worries).
Case is, in Germany small compound quivers are a LOT cheaper than long or two piece quivers made for recurves.
Is it possible to mount such a quiver meant for compounds on the ILF riser? Did anyone do this? Downsides?
I know next to nothing about compound bows, so I can’t figure out if it would work.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

DrFaust

Advised on shaving down sight window of trad recurve

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I have an old low draw weight (30#) recurve that has a very thick riser section thru the sight window forcing the center shot WAY off to the left. I spoke with bowyer Tom Jeffrey in Columbia SC about it and he suggested "hitting it with a rasp" to thin down the sight window, advising me that many bows like this were over built and made for shooters canting the bow, so centershot was less of an issue. I compared the bow with a couple newer and heavier recurves and it is at least 1/4" thicker than these other two. I plan to shoot it off a Hoyt Super rest BTW, so contour of shelf less of an issue.
Any suggestions for the best tool to use to slowly take off the extra wood and how to best refinish it after completion. In the end, I am more concerned with how it shoots than how it looks, but don’t want to do a crappy job either.
Thanks in advance
