In need of recurve recommendations

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hello everyone,

I am new to the forum and new to archery. A friend recently introduced my boyfriend and myself to archery.

It is something I have been interested in doing for a very long time. And archery will allow us to shoot in many more places than we can go to shoot guns and therefore more often since we wont have to drive so far out of the way. It will also allow us to go shooting when ammo is expensive or difficult to find.

When the three of us went to the archery range, my boyfriend was able to use a borrowed compound bow. I enjoyed watching and took some pictures, but I was unable to draw either of the bows (both were compound bows, I was able to draw the 30# once with my left, and using a tab, but wasn’t able to draw it after that). So, I have not yet been able to shoot a bow and we do not have a shop around to allow me to try them out. I will be buying online and I am looking for recommendations. (the more details, the better)

I hope this gives a good idea of what I am looking for:

I prefer the look and feel of a recurve bow over a compound, I just don’t really like the mechanical feel and I don’t feel that I need the additional power of a compound since I am not interested in hunting, I just want to have fun with this.

I am right-handed and strongly left-eye dominant. I want a left-handed or ambidextrous bow as I would prefer to keep both eyes open when shooting. I like the idea of instinctive shooting and this is how I get my best shots when shooting guns (but that may be due to only recently finding out about my eye dominance). I have no interest in using sights on a bow, and again, I do not like the mechanical feel of all the extra stuff on bow. I would also like to shoot off the shelf.

I am a small-frame woman with little upper-body strength and I will be starting with a very low draw weight. Only 20#, this may or may not increase by the time I buy my first bow (I want one as soon as possible, but I am still doing my research). I am going to the gym regularly and have added rows to my routine, but I am only rowing 15 lbs. right now. I’d like to get a take-down recurve so that I can just buy new limbs for the riser. I also have a short draw length (about 25").

I was seriously considering buying the Samick Sage 62" Takedown Recurve, but I think that I would like a shorter, lighter bow better (someone said this one is about 3.5# and it’s been recommended I should get something 3# or lighter).

Need some numbers run for spine

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I was hoping someone with high speed software would be kind enough to run some numbers for me. I’m shooting 70/29 CHILL R with 29" Victory VAPs (shaft cut to 28", outsert makes it 29"). I was planning on shooting 300 spine arrows, 50 grain P2 outserts, and 100 grain points but the chart has me shooting 340’s.

If I shoot the 300 spine will I be better off with 125 grain points? Maybe even cut the arrows to 29.5?

Components:

Blazer Vanes
Blazer Wraps
50 grain insert
100 or 125 grain points

Thanks for the help!

Is there any truth or need to find “adjusted draw weight”

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey guys so I was looking through the Lancaster supply book and saw where Carbon Express had a chart for "adjusted draw weight". So instead of matching up the chart with the weight of the bow, poundage, and cams on your bow it adds or subtracts pounds due to let-off, tip weight, and the IBO of your bow. Just wondering if this was a good idea or just another gimmick. if there is some truth to it my 65lb bow should be shooting arrows spined for a 75 lb bow. And if it is true is it for only CX shafts or is it good for Gold Tip, Easton, Etc? Any Insight on this?

Need help with spine choice

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Thinking about gettin a Bowtech 360 when they come out so I’ve been lookin for a new arrow. I want to shoot around 450gr at 27". My DL is 26.5 or 27 depends on the bow. I am thinking GT because I have some of the weights and spare nocks already. I want to use 450gr for elk and 400 for deer. Not sure if I should go with .340 or .300 due to all the weight up front. Not sure if I’ll by 60# or 70# yet. What are your suggestions for this variance in weight? Should I look at 2 different arrows for these tasks? Thanks.

New Vintage Bow? Need info please

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey guys I am new to this site so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have and love my Fred bear compound bow which I use for hunting. This past weekend I bought a "vintage" fiberglass bow at a resale shop. Their are no markings on the bow and no string. Since this is my first recurve I was doing research on what type and length of string I needed. I realized my bow does not have string notches. Is this common in older bows? Do I have a bow I can’t use? Can anyone help please.

Thanks,
Daniel
