“You need to shoot a COC Broadhead…” #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I hear these words often at shops and on here, and in fact, I was told this a week ago.

This is a conversation primarily for those who shoot BOTH mechanicals and fixed broadheads.

How do YOU determine when a COC broadhead should be used over a mechanical?
Do you base it off speed, arrow weight, overall draw weight?

Need Taxidermist Advice re Coating a Euro #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve been doing my first euro hog mount. It looks really nice. I’ve filled the tusks with epoxy to keep them strong.

But I’m wondering if there is something I can spray on the entire head to keep it from flaking or chipping over time. Is there?

Carbon Xpress Blu RZ build, need help #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Shooting either a Mathews Vertix or PSE Evoke 31 at 74-75 pound draw weight, 29 draw length.

Arrows cut 29" carbon to carbon
Fletching Q2i Fusion II high profile (.55) three vane config
Firenock lighted nocks (approximately 22 grains total weight)

Thinking about putting a 100 grain brass insert up front, and running 100 grain broadheads.

Arrow weight cut to 29" is 245.05
Fletching weight approx 22 grains (with glue)
Firenocks 22 grains complete

So 289.05 prior to insert install. Add 100 grains for the brass insert and you are at 389.05 with killer FOC.

Run a 100 grain head up front and you are at 489.05

My question is, will the 350 spine be adequate for this amount of weight up front?

And what is the best arrow build calculator for iPhone in your opinion? I do way to many builds not to go ahead and get the best calculator out there.

I killed this elk in September, in Wyoming. Left it with taxidermist that outfitter recommended. I have used the taxidermist before with no issues. Well I wanted this elk scored for Pope and Young, called and talked to them many times in regards to making sure it got scored. After not hearing from them after the drying period I called again, they said scorer was backed up and he would get to it. Well I get an email this week stating the antlers were cut off before it was scored. The did score it for SCI and it was 280 and 4/8. I realize there are deductions for pope and young but I also think there is also another spread measurement for pope and young. To try and appease me he took antlers to the scorer and and the score measured the antlers and came up with 252 even. 8 points shy. That’s over 22 points in deductions from just the SCI score not including the other spread measurement. I don’t want to get into whether or not an animal should be entered? Just wanting some opinions on which direction to turn? Thanks

Picking Out a Set of Binoculars – Need Expert Advice #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I have decided to treat myself to a quality pair of Binoculars for Christmas. I primarily hunt West Illinois where we spend quite a bit of time glassing field edges in the evenings scouting before season. I currently have a cheap pair of Vortex Vanquish 8×26 binoculars that have served their purpose, but I want some improvement.

I have always been a Leupold scope guy, but not sure the quality of their binoculars. I am looking to spend $ 200 to $ 600. Does anybody have some recommendations in this price range? I am also open to buy a used pair in this price range if their is a model I should be looking out for.

Any advice?
