back after 30 years, just a couple questions #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

So I last shot a compound bow sometime in college was shooting a Darton SL50 at the time. Life took over, 4 kids etc..

Finally got back into last year about this time. Going to climb back in a tree again this year (was 17 the last time I got a deer).

I can’t believe the technology and the power in the more modern bows.

Anyway to my questions:

I am shooting at 70 pounds with black eagle x impacts so far so good but want to shoot indoor 300 this winter. I have noticed those arrows often go through the bail and into the plywood back stop. So here is the question I am looking at getting arrows for indoor, fat ones but can’t seem to find anything that will go long enough. My draw length is 31.5. My thought is the fatter arrows will slow down in the target quicker and may cut an extra line here or there. Any suggestions on arrows to look at? So far it looks like all are about max of 30"?

The second question is about lighted nocks. Anyone found some that they really like in the skinny arrows mine have .165 inner diameter. Any suggestions at which to look at?

Thanks

Who has bought a saddle and just didn’t care for it?? be honest now #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’m just wondering how many people buy a saddle just because they thought it was going to be so great and it turned out they didn’t care for it like they thought they would? Please share your experiences whether you liked it or not? how long did it take to get use to shooting out of a saddle? What climbing methods did you use? and what method did you like the best? What saddle did you end up with? or did you sell it? Do you think saddles are just a fad or the real deal? Please share your thought’s or experiences or any hints or tips to people who have never used a saddle? Thank you!!! for answering thread

Just trying to do the right thing and be legal #archery

Let’s have a discussion….

Illinois regulations state with respect to transporting firearms and bows in vehicles:

You cannot legally:
• have or carry a shotgun, rifle, handgun or airgun in or on any vehicle, conveyance
or aircraft unless the firearm or airgun is unloaded and completely enclosed in a
case except as noted in the Blinds section of Waterfowl Hunting in this digest.
Also see Hunting From Vehicles and Boats and “FAQs” hereafter. This applies to
concealed carry permit holders who are hunting.
• carry a bow or bow and arrow device in or on a vehicle, conveyance or aircraft
unless it is unstrung or enclosed in a case, or otherwise made inoperable.

Soooooooo…… if I strap my bow to my pack in such a way that it cannot be drawn, but it is not fully enclosed in a case, would that be legal in the eyes of Illinois DNR or any game warden that I might come across?

I spent so many good years being a member of AT. For Health reasons I can no longer shoot a bow which makes my life a lot less happy. Just wanted to say Hi to all the members from the past. AT was a big part of my life during my archery shooting days and I owe them a grate deal of thanks. When I got sick they allow a fund me account which was such a blessing. So many good things happen here ever day. Archery talk is one of the best things for archery ever.

So Happy Memorial day to all here at AT.

Remember to always thank the moderators for sharing there time.

Maybe I’m just stupid but…. #archery

We have a local outdoor trap and archery club that has been undergoing a major upgrade. I convinced the board that we should purchase some Pacific Bow Butts 48"x 31" targets and the stands. We only had the funds for 4 targets and last night the club got them set up. Due to the fact that we want to get a league started with only 4 targets, I suggested that we set them out at yardages of 20, 30, 40, 50. One of the board members who is barely an archer thought we should start at 10 and go to 40. I pushed for starting at 20 yards because I felt that with only 4 targets, 10 yards would be a waste for most guys and a 50 yard target would provide a challenge that would encourage everyone to stretch their ability and improve their skills. I could only be there long enough to help get flags set up for positioning each butt, but we set them out starting at 20 yards. The next morning I went to check on their placement and found that they were set at 10 to 40. I am not crying that I didn’t get my way, but the whole league thing is in my lap and I want to make a good range from what limited resources we have.

Give me your honest opinions. If you were looking for a new club and league to shoot with, would you rather go with 10-40 or 20-50? If I am thinking incorrectly, I want to hear from others. If I am correct, I would like the opinions of others so I may be able to convince the board to make a slight change. Don’t hold off if I am wrong in my thinking; it’s all about making the best use of what we have for now. Maybe later we can get another target, but for now we need to make the best use of what we have.

Just a reminder for those of you that hunt from a stand #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

This was not from a tree stand but it was from a 20 foot roof. I go on roofs all the time to help people out but we always tie off. This time I got in a hurry and did not tie off and I ended up falling from 20 feet down to the concrete. I got lucky and only broke my left arm in six places. My hand completely separated from my arm. I had a metal plate and 11 screws put in my arm.The pain has been tremendous and therapy is long and sometimes painful. Luckily I am going to make a full recovery but I just wanted to remind everyone when you go off the ground make sure you are tied off some how.
