I have no idea what Im doing! #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

So I live s. Elgin Illinois and I came to acquire a pse evolve 35 and want to learn everything there is. Brand new at this and want to learn how to hunt. I don’t plan on getting my feet wet this season because I want to make sure I can shoot accurately around 50 yards. If anyone has anything to teach me I will be greatly appreciative of any knowledge I gain from this!

Thank you all in advance!

Interested in everyone’s solutions to keeping treestands and trail cameras secure.

PLEASE, keep the stupid comments to a minimum. You’re not the first person to say "Don’t put anything in the woods you aren’t prepared to lose", or "if someone wants it, they’ll find a way to take it". It’s not a profound idea. Everyone gets it. We’re interested in keeping the honest people honest.

Example:

On my stacking sticks, I replace the pointless round hitch pins with stainless steel nuts and bolts. The cheap-o stamped steel wrenches that come with your treestands are1/2", so that’s the size I used. Tighten them enough to where if you want my ladder, you need tools. Keep the wrenches in your backpack you use when hanging/retrieving stands, and throw a set in the console of your truck.

This worked so well that when some asshat came through the woods with bolt cutters, he got my stand (cable lock), but the whole section of 25" ladder was laying there next to the tree (apparently he needed my straps).

Let’s come together as hunters – Website Idea – Hunt Sharing

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

So this idea came to be a while back. I’ve had some experience building websites for political campaigns and have made some forums a long time ago. I posted this idea on a facebook group i’m on and it got some good feedback, figured this would be a wider scope to talk about it here.

The website/ forum/ whatever would be a way for hunters to connect and "hunt share" with other people with comparable land. The idea really kicked off for me when I started asking around locally if anyone had land in kansas where Rio’s were the main turkey to harvest. With no leads, and not wanting to drop $ 1,500 on an outfitter I started to think to myself that SOMEONE in kansas would let me hunt their land if I let them hunt mine. Better yet, I’m SURE I could find someone in florida, and someone in Nebraska that has access to Meriams and Osceola’s that would like to hunt my farm for turkeys or whitetails.

So the website would go something like this. You would make a profile, which includes information on what you want to hunt, what you have access too, and all the details. I hope this makes sense. The point is to make inter-state hunting as cheap as possible. Get 2,3,4 or more people on board that all hunt together on different properties that THEY own, and you’ve got a pretty sweet year ahead of you. So i’ll make a quick example.

Hunter 1 – Lives in Missouri, has a 400 acre farm with good turkey population and frequent 130-150 inch whitetails.
Hunter 2 – Lives in Ohio. Has a 600 acre farm with good turkey population and frequent 140-160 inch whitetails.
Hunter 3 – Lives in Montana. Has access to 2000 acres with black bear and Elk.
Hunter 4 – Lives in Nebraska. Has 1000 acre farm with antelope and turkey.

These four hunters collaborate on said website, and before you know it, you have access to three new states and 4 new species that you’ve never hunted before. All you have to do is buy your out of state tag. This would also encourage hunters to take better care of their land, put in food plots, pass on smaller animals, etc. You could even have a record of animals and sizes taken on each land. So if a Hunter 5 pops up and says he would like in on the action, but doesn’t have much to bring to the table, the other hunters can decide together if they want to pass on it or not.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Does something like this already exist?

Competition Recurve – No Idea Where to Start

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hi folks,

I’m interested in purchasing a recurve bow to compete in local traditional leagues and tournaments. I really like Hoyt bows, but don’t know where to start. There are so many options!

Right now I shoot a 35# @ 28" root pendulus from the 60s. It’s fine, but I need something with a little more meat to step up against the big boys.

Any clues where I should start? Any recommendations?

Thanks in advance!

Best Bow (An Idea For A Fun Thread)

I participate on a very large custom knife forum

Every year over the Holidays – X Mas to the new year they host a Best Bowie Thread

The greatest makers in the world participate and the Bowies that are entered vary from gold inlaid , engraved , ivory masterpieces to pure forms of function.

This garners a huge turn out and is anxiously awaited by the biggest collectors and makers in the world

The op that hosts this on test every year starts with a nomination thread

You number your entry’s and after an allotted time the entry’s are stopped and everyone nominates up to 5 knives

Than the top 5 nominations are set into a poll on a different thread and after an allotted time the winner is selected

I have been fortunate to have had some pieces from my collection and more importantly helped design make the top 5 on a few occasions

The criteria was hat the knife had to of been acquired by the owner in the current year

The first year his contest was started it was open all comers

Here are examples of the past two years

2011

2011 finalist

2012

Finalist 2012

My thought is this

Being that this time of year is a bit slow for hunting except turkey I thought if the other members where interested we old have a Best Bow Contest

It would be open to all entry’s from the most gorgeous customs to the most purpose built performance bow

I can see where some would vote or a piece of art like a Blacktail or a jacked up performance ILF rig …… All comers welcome

What are your thoughts ?

Could be fun and maybe like in the Bowie competition it could turn into a real feather in the cap for makers and owners alike

So what do you think Archery Talks Annual Best Bow Thread ?
