Questions about turkey hunting?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I was thinking about getting into hunting turkeys. I have been shooting for a little over a month now at targets. There are a few questions I would like to know:
1. How long would it be until I could hunt?
I’m not an expert yet, but I do know I need more practice. My draw weight is around 35 pounds right now. Is that too low?
2. What all is involved?
Gear, techniques, laws and permits, etc.
I also have a bit of a fear of heights (I’m working on fixing that). Do most people traditionally hunt from the ground with a blind or in a tree stand?

Any advice and answers would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. 😀

I Wish Turkey Hunting Was Good Around Here

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Every year I see everybody getting excited for spring gobbler and I did for a while too. But in my area of SE Pennsylvania, turkey hunting sucks. You either need access to good private land or you’re left with the public land that everybody else hits. I have never even seen a turkey while turkey hunting which just makes it all the more deflating. I’ve pretty much given up on it unless I can get access to private land that has a turkey population. The land we hunt for deer up in Potter has good turkey numbers but family stuff, work, and life in general keeps it from happening. I’ll just live vicariously through everybody here and their stories. Gobble gobble!

Weird things that happened when shed hunting

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Today I found an old shed on a mowed path that is only like 5 inches tall in some brush. I walked this path at least 20 times this year and it was not on the mowed path and it was above the grass that was cut so the mower didnt go over it. Its bleached out and has some green mildew so its def not a fresh one and its got some light teeth marks on it. Only thing I can think of is that another animal found it and moved it to there lately. Anyone else experience anything similar?

Also I found two nice sides from two different bucks laying practically together, and still couldnt find either sets. Did this twice from 4 diferent bucks so its like they like to drop them together:o.

This has been a weird shed hunting year but my best so far, the first 9 sheds I found were all right sides. The first left side was my first and only set.

Weight and stability In a hunting crossbow

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

What are your thoughts on weight and stability in your hunting crossbow? I have been down the feather weight train in my rifle hunting and found i could not shoot them as well as a medium weight rifle. I myself am willing to carry the 8 to 10 lb crossbow for the stability it brings. I am not young anymore at 53 hunt from the ground and most of my stands are a mile or more back in.

Many think that hunting with a crossbow shouldn’t be considered bowhunting and that it’s too easy. Unfortunately for them, many of those same people have never tried it and are sadly misinformed. Bushmen Safaris, on an exclusive "ARCHERY ONLY" retreat, is well known for quality trophies and our professional hunters who are avid crossbow hunters. Please visit our Facebook page – www.facebook.com/album.php?id=100000674386435&aid=46859 – to see some of our crossbow clients in action, and visit www.bushmensafaris.com to learn more about our Africa hunting packages and facilities.

Safe hunting arrow length?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

How many people shoot arrows that match their draw length? Is this merely a safety factor or do you prefer the longer arrows for some other reason (easier to match spine, tuning, etc.)?

Personally, I have been shooting 27.5" arrows and I have a 29" draw length. Trying to draw every last ounce of speed out of the bow I can get.
