Does anyone use a stab on their hunting recurve?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Am in need of a short stab on my new 17" hunting riser. Every bow I have ever had (compound or recurve) , the top limb wants to come back toward me at the shot. I like to have enough weight +vibration control in a stab to have the bow sit vertical in my hand. Just curious if anyone uses a stab and what you like. Thanks , GREG BTW I have done searches but all I get are recomendations for long target stabs.

New to bow hunting. What kind of crossbow to get?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hello. I am 15, and I am just getting into crossbow hunting. My friend said to get a 150 pound bow because it is a good starter. I will most likely be hunting deer with him up in a tree stand. I have looked at them, but I have no idea which to get. Is there a good beginner brand? What kind of arrows do I need? Please help me out! Thanks!

Hunting products that buck the trend.

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I know that for the most part we get what we pay for, but I have also found a few products that over the years have bucked the trend and offer solid performance for dollars spent. I can think of three off the top of my head that have been solid at a budget price. I will start with the Simmons LRF600 rangefinder. I have used this rangefinder for the past three seasons and it has been accurate and very easy to use with the one touch system. On the down side the display is black, no angle compensation, and while the optics are not the best they are very capable. In my opinion really good performance for less then a hundred dollar bill.

Cat whiskers! cheap, last a long time and frankly I have not seen any string attached silencer that works any better. On the down side you loose a few FPS, but you do with all string mounted silencers. Last and probable the best dollar value I can think of is the Mora knife. At 13 dollars or less you get a knife that is made from quality stainless or carbon steel and is properly heat treated. These knives are scary sharp and have very good edge retention they also have good ergonomics and a rubbery grip. On the down side they have a rat tail spine and they are not the thickest blade profile, but mine have been more then capable at tackling field knife task. I feel that the Mora knife performs as good as just about any knife even at 5x the cost.

I just thought it would interesting to show some products that have served us well so the budget hunter could do some research and check them out. What budget hunting gear has impressed you and made you feel that it is better than the price tag?

Hunting arrow weight

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hello all! New to the forum and just wanted to bring up a subject that has long been debated. First off let me say with no conciet or ego implied at all that I have been a bowhunter for 30 plus years and like many here I have a deep respect for the beautiful animals that I have the privallige of hunting.
I shoot fast bows and light arrows and have for many years. I shoot 65 lbs and 29" draw and my arrows are 27" @ 364 grains moving a respectable 325fps. Now I here alot of hunters tell me how my arrows are too light and wont have enough ke down range to take large game. Well I personally believe that old way of thinking we need 420+ grain arrows is outdated with todays bows. I blow through moose at 70 yards and devistate shoulder blades on elk and deer if i hit them blowing clean through 98% of the time. I shot a deer this season at 50 yards and had it spin slightly and litteraly blew through both shoulder blades and a set of ribs with a clean pass through. Just sharing my experience here and certainly not knocking anyones set up or opinion. Just wonder why so many hunters feel they need to shoot heavy arrows and believe lighter arrows wont penetrate and keep on going? Just food for thought! Glad to be part of the forum! Have a great night all!!

hunting arrow weight ?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I just bought a 2013 Elite Hunter. It maxes at 63 pounds and I have a 28.5" draw. I am not a speed freak but would like to get around 275fps with a 100 grain head. I am shooting Easton FMJ 411grains and charts say I would get around 250fps with them.

What is a good hunting arrow that will weigh in around 350grains with the head and handle 62lb draw weight.

Thanks

Arrow weight for hunting hogs, deer and bear

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey Guys I’m looking for advice on setting up arrows for hunting hogs, deer and black bear. I’m shooting a Bear Super Kodiak 50 lb. My draw length is 28 inches. My current arrows are Victory Vforce 500, 4 inch feathers with brass inserts and 125gr points. Total arrow weight is 400 grains. They shoot / fly great, If I do my part I can keep my groups the size of a pie pan at 30 yards.

I’ve been doing a lot of research and reading Dr. Ed Ashbys recommendations on total arrow weight and FOC. I believe I should have a total arrow weight of 500 grains or more. I need advice on arrows, spine weight, broadheads and total arrow weight. Also should I use 4 or 5 inch feathers?

Thank you for any advice with my endeavor

Patrick
