School me on Stabs for western hunting #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey guys and gals new to this awesome forum. Been browsing about and gaining a lot of info since I’ve joined.
Just recently set up a Hoyt Axius Alpha for this year and wanted to play with some stabs but have never ran a back stab.. wondering what mounts you recommend and how the bow should balance all loaded up.

Currently running a front stab and it wants to lean forward and right (I’m right handed)

Should I set it up to where it’s just level or should I want it to slightly lean a certain way?

Any insight and suggestions are appreciated.

My dad gave me his old bow. Its a Shakespeare 52", 45lb bow. I put a new string and some beaver balls on it. I got the bow two weeks ago, ordered the new string and then we went on vacation.

The new string was here when I got here. Ignore my ugly nock, its the first time I tied one in on anything. I have put maybe 15-20 arrows through it and I am accurate to a 15" small square target at 17 yards. My block is sitting down at 80 and I haven’t walked down there to bring it up.

Right now I am shooting some older Axis arrows that I used to shoot with my compound. I think they are around 535 grains but I would screw in a 150 grain head to get me close to 600. I could also build some specific arrows, I think these are cut just a tad short.

The target is a small bag target. The arrows barley stick in. Is this a set up I could hunt with? I don’t really want to dive fully into traditional but I thought it would be cool to shoot something with an old bow my dad used to hunt with. I don’t think he ever killed a deer with it. There are a lot of does to shoot here in Iowa. Thoughts?

Youth Bow Hunting What are your kids using #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

My boy had finally got his poundage up to 35# and will finally get to hunt this season. He has the BT infinite edge bow but I was wandering if there is something better in the 30+ pounds draw weight range.

Second part is has anyone killed whitetail or kids killed whitetail with the infinite edge in the 35# range. I’m thinking he will be closer to 40# by season but either way I’m confident with his arrow setup and keeping kill zone under 20 yards it would get the job done.

Thanks in advance for any input and feel free to shoot me a PM if you have an upgrade your wanting to sell

God Bless USA and Happy 4th

Hunting clothes for Elk Archery in New Mexico Sep. 15-24 6’3″ 180lbs #archery

So this is my first bow hunt and my first big game hunt and I am looking at getting some clothing. I am 6’3" and 180 lbs and so I was thinking going with some Sitka gear since they have medium long sizes. I am having a hard time telling if other peoples clothes would fit me very well. I have gone hunting with other people the last two years, and done squirrel in the fall and have generally been temperature miserable. I bought some nice boots last year and WOW that made a huge difference when I tried bear hunting since that was over the counter. Now id like to get some nicer clothing.

I will be in unit 45 of New Mexico, probably around 8,000 feet of elevation for the Elk Hunt. The problem is that I could hunt lower like 6,000 or even higher at 10,000. That is a very big elevation difference. I also have a January Oryx hunt but it is a little more south in the state and lower elevation. January this year was low to high of 25 F to 65 F in the area I will be hunting Oryx. So not to cold, but very windy.

What sort of clothing do you think I should get? I was thinking from Sitka getting a Core Lightweight Hoody and the Sitka Jetstream Jacket. Do you think that jacket will be too warm? For pants I was thinking the Timberline.

I’m not sure if I am going to need two different sets or really how to optimize this. I have some cheaper clothes from Cabelas already, but everything is short for me so when I sit and glass the small of my back hangs out, and my backpack digs into the belt that I am wearing around my pants.

Custom thin/skinny grips for compound hunting bows #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Anyone mold or make their own grips before?

Saw a video online of someone using plumber’s putty and a few pictures of other grips done this way, but it made the grips wide and big. Was hoping for something that would work but would be skinny. In short, I’ve found that I like a straight grip somewhere between thin and medium but there are a few areas where I would like to contour the grip slightly. Idea is to start with a thin grip on the bow itself, but a thin grip I can put over it, and find some what to mold/shape it for my hand – not sure how to get this going though.

Talk to me about E Bikes for hunting #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I know there are a bunch on the market and I’m sure they are all good bikes but anyone have real world experience with e bikes for hunting? I’ve read a bunch of online magazine reviews but would Ike feedback from you all. What are some things to consider other than motor size? (I’m leaning towards 750) I will be using it to check trail cams, getting to stands etc. probably no more than a mile or two one way in. I’d like a durable one that can withstand rain, mud, dirt, travel through cut corn field, small streams, etc. like to stay in the $ 3000 max range. Thanks for any input!
