Live Action! Oklahoma Deer Hunt 2015!

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Good afternoon all! It’s Mid-November here in NE Oklahoma and i have put in for a week of Vacation Nov. 22-29. This falls directly on the first week of Oklahoma’s Deer Gun Season to which i Have decided i will be BOW Hunting during that time!!! Some may say that is bad timing, but i have noticed over the years that there is still a lot of Mature Buck activity during those days on my property. The last 8-9 years have provided me at least one chance at a 140-160 buck. I believe this trend will continue as i have not seen any mature deer movement the last two weeks, only young bucks going crazy.

I’ve done a thread like this before and it was a blessing and i hope others will find it a blessing as well. Come along for the ride if you’d like! Ask questions, give input, share your stories!!!! I love archer to archer interaction on these threads!

Before i share a little about myself and the land i hunt, i want to Give Praise and Honor to My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for forgiving me of my sins and giving me Eternal life! He is my everything and my all in all. I was burdened with the guilt of my sin for years and Christ showered me with His love and mercy and took all of my sin and burdens. Hallelujah! Jesus Christ didn’t come into the World to Condemn the World, He came to Give Eternal Life and Peace with God. Blessed be the Name of our Lord!

God has also blessed me with my Wife (of 10 years) and Three Kids (and one on the way!) I have a job and a home and for that i am sooo thankful!

I am a Full time Pastor as well as having a Secular Job. Our Ministry is Gospel Focused, Sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ. We Teach By Grace Alone Through Faith alone in Christ Alone! We also teach Holy Living for Born again Children of God through the Teaching and Study of The Holy Word of God (Just in case anyone was wondering!)

OK…some info about me and the land i hunt…

I will have pics and maps up here in the next couple of days so if you have any questions or want to see something i will do my best to provide you with it here.

I am 31 and originally from The East Coast…I got into deer hunting because of my father-in-law about 8 years ago. I started with ML and went to Rifle and then about 3 years ago i tried bow hunting and i got hooked! I mostly hunt with my bow (Will have info on that later)

I have killed some decent deer and have missed opportunities on some monsters. Regardless of the outcome of the hunt, i am just sooooo blessed to have this opportunity, the land, the ability, the supportive wife and kids.

I hunt around 300 acres of wooded ridges, bottoms, and open fields. It is all private. It is family land and i am so thankful to be hunting it.

I have around 8 different sets that i would like to try…

The weather is suppose to drop into the 50’s for a high on Saturday and the lows in the 30’s. This part of OK hasn’t experienced those type of Temps so i fully expect to see some deer move that i haven’t seen yet.

I FINALLY decided to invest in some cameras and i put them out last weekend and i will check them the first day of the hunt and give you guys an update on some creatures roaming the land.

Please feel free to chime in and ask questions or give suggestions.

My prayer is that this thread is a time of good fellowship..i hope you guys enjoy the ride…May God get all the Glory!

Some bucks on my wall…

how and when would you hunt here

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I got permission to hunt this really good land. west side of creek is public and I am the only one who has permission to hunt east side. Can you all give me your advice of where to hunt on this land and when? I don’t want to go in in the dark and risk blowing them out of the field. Or is there a way in where I don’t have to worry? I need all the help I can get.mound.jpg

what spot to hunt? +questions

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

so I landed a large piece of land this year and one side is mature oaks that are all open and a small corn field then a really thick brushy area with a creek and more mature oaks but its on the lower level of the property then connects to a no hunting land.

I was out there with a guy that hunts it also and he said great spot for rut but I didn’t see any rubs but there was a lot of tracks and trails. Would you guys stay out of there until rut and sit it or hunt a few times early season to see just how good?

Got another issue with it. there is a small tract of land connecting to this spot and I was already told no hunting. now there is a driveway that runs past this guy who said no hunting that meets the field, I asked about parking there to access the land I have permission for and he said its okay as long as I have permission for that land. but when I was talking to him about hunting permission and parking he was very short with me, almost like he was irritated.

would you guys still use this drive to access the land or stay away?

Question for parents with kids that hunt or just enjoy the outdoors.

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

At what age did you start taking your kids hunting. Also at what age did you start to introduce your kids to the outdoors as far as taking them to check cameras, scouting, hiking thought the woods etc. I have a two years old and I can only hope that he will enjoy the outdoors as much as I do. He already likes to site there with me and watch hunting shows. We have a field that connects to our property and if me and him are outside all I have to do is say you want to go look at the deer and he takes off running to the field saying deer deer deer. We can be walking around our local outdoor store and he will walk up to every deer target and say deer dada and start to pet it. So I am wondering what is a good age to really start getting him involved with outdoor activates. I am not going to take him and sit in the woods for hours deer hunting when he is four. I am just wanting to see when other parents started to get there kids walking around the woods or anything else.

Ok tough to hunt stand, need opinions

image.jpgI planted the area in red with milo and plan on over seeding with turnips and rye. The area in green is soybeans, also to be overseeded in turnips as well as rye. I have a stand set for a N, NW, or W wind on my beans and would like to try and set up my milo for a S SW wind to hunt late season. athe problem is all the areas marked with arrows I have observed deer moving across the property. One of my biggest problems is trying to get a perfect wind when I know thats next to impossible. How would you guys prefer to hunt this spot? There are some good trees on the edge of the woods on the N side of the milo there as well as on the little ditch that runs along the S side. Im afraid by hunting one end too far E or W on the plot I will be limiting my shot potential.

Thanks
