Had the opportunity to test out the new Nestucca Cleaver from the Benchmade HUNT. lineup. It is an impressive knife that I think will find its way in may of y’alls packs this year 😉

You can read the review and see more pics of the Nestucca here:

I’m compiling a list and want to make sure I include everything. I live in MA so it will be New England hunting for me.

Both for all day hunts and short overnights.

Let’s come together as hunters – Website Idea – Hunt Sharing

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

So this idea came to be a while back. I’ve had some experience building websites for political campaigns and have made some forums a long time ago. I posted this idea on a facebook group i’m on and it got some good feedback, figured this would be a wider scope to talk about it here.

The website/ forum/ whatever would be a way for hunters to connect and "hunt share" with other people with comparable land. The idea really kicked off for me when I started asking around locally if anyone had land in kansas where Rio’s were the main turkey to harvest. With no leads, and not wanting to drop $ 1,500 on an outfitter I started to think to myself that SOMEONE in kansas would let me hunt their land if I let them hunt mine. Better yet, I’m SURE I could find someone in florida, and someone in Nebraska that has access to Meriams and Osceola’s that would like to hunt my farm for turkeys or whitetails.

So the website would go something like this. You would make a profile, which includes information on what you want to hunt, what you have access too, and all the details. I hope this makes sense. The point is to make inter-state hunting as cheap as possible. Get 2,3,4 or more people on board that all hunt together on different properties that THEY own, and you’ve got a pretty sweet year ahead of you. So i’ll make a quick example.

Hunter 1 – Lives in Missouri, has a 400 acre farm with good turkey population and frequent 130-150 inch whitetails.
Hunter 2 – Lives in Ohio. Has a 600 acre farm with good turkey population and frequent 140-160 inch whitetails.
Hunter 3 – Lives in Montana. Has access to 2000 acres with black bear and Elk.
Hunter 4 – Lives in Nebraska. Has 1000 acre farm with antelope and turkey.

These four hunters collaborate on said website, and before you know it, you have access to three new states and 4 new species that you’ve never hunted before. All you have to do is buy your out of state tag. This would also encourage hunters to take better care of their land, put in food plots, pass on smaller animals, etc. You could even have a record of animals and sizes taken on each land. So if a Hunter 5 pops up and says he would like in on the action, but doesn’t have much to bring to the table, the other hunters can decide together if they want to pass on it or not.

Thoughts? Suggestions? Does something like this already exist?

I have been doing alot of research on turkey hunting and the maps of the black hills. We are very willing to do the walking to find the turkeys and call them in. Going on our first elk hunt and DIY at that!!!

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Been lurking in the shadows for the last couple years and decided to finally join the forum and making my first post so here goes. A friend and I are going on our first elk hunt this year, well his second or third and my first. Bad part is he hasn’t been in 15 years (since he was in high school) and we don’t know exactly what to bring or where to go. We are going on a backcountry hunt and probably wont set up a base camp. we know we will have to get way back in there and are ok with that. I have been searching the web for the last 3 weeks trying to do some research and thought I might as well give up on the lists everyone has posted because to be honest we don’t have a ton of cash and most of them are listing the most top of the line gear and we cant really afford that. so wondering what most people use (looking like red head and cabelas gear, not Sitka and what not although he does have some bad lands stuff and I do have some UA barrier gear). I know shelter, sleeping bag, pad, pack and boots are all top priority which we have but I have to get boots still. Looking at mendle denali boots, danner pronghorns, and UA Ridge Reaper but I know they really aren’t a mountain boot. The pack I got was an Easton Fullbore XT 5600 and hope it works (found it pretty cheap on camofire). As for tent I got an ALPS zephyr 3 man for the both of us and we can split the load, sleeping bag is Big agnes encampment 15 and pad is big agnes inulated Q or something like that. We are looking at the last week of archery season in Colorado, was going to go the week prior but found out muzzleloader season is going on so figured we would push it back.

As for unit we are thinking about 161 up by the Wyoming boarder but really have no clue where to go. Part of the reason we chose that area or one of the surrounding units is because 1 we are doing OTC since I doubt I get drawn for a mule deer tag and 2 if we go to that unit or 14, 15 is we can make it in 12 hours and probably get an extra day to hunt. so if anyone could help us out with some info on any of those units we would really appreciate it. we have to do all of our scouting through the internet and maps because we cant make it out there before season due to work. we aren’t looking for anyones honey holes just some general info on where to start and where to look and maybe make some friends that possibly hunt in the area. thanks for any help guys and any info you are willing to pass along.
