I’m setting up my new garage with all my tools and equipment for working on bows and I would love to get some ideas of how all of ya’ll have your workspace for your bows set up! Share pics, give me tips or ideas!

Here is my workbench I just finished. I have bought the material to put on top of the bench, but it hasn’t been installed yet.

My Home Made Draw board/Work Bench/Bow Vise

Well, I decided to finally build that draw board I’ve been thinking about for six months. I wanted a dedicated work bench that would have an integrated draw board, stand for a bow vise and a flat surface to put my DIY bow press.

So Sunday I built a work bench with a bottom shelf. It has a 4′ x 3′ table top. I over built it I’m sure using a combination of 2×4′s and 2×6′s.

The draw board directions I got from Field and Stream. http://www.fieldandstream.com/articl…r-compound-bow.

1. Get a 6-foot-long 2×6 ($ 4 at any big-box hardware store). If you have synthetic decking material like Trex (trex.com) lying around, or want to spend more money for it, all the better. It won’t warp if left in a damp basement.

2. Screw a 3⁄4-inch threaded floor flange ($ 5) 6 inches from the end of your 2×6. Thread a 31⁄2-inch pipe ($ 3) into the flange. Place a piece of old rubber hose over the pipe as a cushion, or wrap it with sports tape.

3. Bolt down a small trailer winch ($ 24) 45 to 50 inches from the flange. Go longer if you plan to add a bow scale or shorter if you have a tight draw length. Leave an extra 6 inches of board behind the winch for a bench clamp.

4. Attach a spring snap or load-bearing carabiner ($ 4) to your winch. Clip the ’biner through your string loop. Draw the bow by cranking the winch back. Be careful! It’s not hard to rip your bow apart by overdrawing the winch.

Optional: To check draw length, add a $ 1 yardstick to your 2×6. Draw length is measured from the front of the riser, so you’ll have to cut a few inches from the yardstick before mounting.

I’m pretty pleased with how it turned out. Works like a champ!

Now I just have to get a decent hanging scale and hopefully my buddy will finish fabricating the fingers for my DIY bowpress (the one from here with the pipe clamps).

Home built cams, any advice?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I am planning to mod my clearwater micro mag into a micro monster. Its a fantastic little bow, super fast, but the draw length is too short for me by several inches. I have duplicated the exact shape of the existing cams but made it almost an inch bigger all the way around. I plan to cut the new cams out of high grade aluminum sheet, which I already have. Will use same modules and cables, but will have to make a custom length string.
Anyone done this before? Any advice?
