Help Me Build My First Non-Hunting Setup #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve loved archery for a long time, and I figure after 30 years I’ll actually branch out from practice and hunting to punch some paper and foam. In that vein I just ordered my first more "targetish" and first non-Mathews bow in 20 years…. a Bowtech Reckoning. I’m going to see if I can find a spot league for this winter to try my hand at indoor, which I’ve never done before. I shot a lot of 3d in high school, but as a traditional shooter. I’ve shot some random ones since, but nothing consistent and just used my primary hunting bow. I am really wanting to make it a regular thing now, and want to build a bow tailored more to that.

I’ve got a rest picked out, Hamskea Trinity Pro… have the hybrid hunter on my Vertix and love it.

For a peep was going to go with the 1/4 Specialty archery peep with several apertures.

I’m unsure of stabilizers, for ASA I’ll be shooting bow novice so a tad limited there. However, I would like to shoot some spots this winter…. so kinda torn on where to start.

Then the sight… torn here also. I’m considering: Spot Hogg Hogg Father, Axcel Accutouch, and CBE Vertex.

The SH is tough as nails doubles as durable enough for hunting, can accommodate multiple scopes, and has the ability to click between marks (micro elevation). The Axcel accepts multiple scopes, also tough, but doesn’t have clicks for micro elevation adjustments. The Vertex is a pure target sight, but also more expensive up front, and I’d probably never haul it hunting in a pinch.

I like my SH, but they are heavy, and I’m building this bow for long bomb shooting… and that weight extended out and high on the riser seems less than ideal, and there the Axcel has the advantage. What the Axcel lacks… is the ability to do clicks of elevation.

… for release, just sticking with what I shoot now, Carter Evolution +…

So for those of you that have done the above activities for a while, any thoughts on the gear I’m contemplating or have suggestions for anything I may not have considered?

HELP!!! Lol Hoyt Carbon RX1 or Carbon Defiant or Mathews Vertix #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Ok here’s my situation. I’m looking at these 3 bows. I like things about all 3 However one really stood out after 40 shots through each. I shot all 3 set to my specs. 29” 60 pounds. The shop set them up with a whisker biscuit rest a D-loop and nothing else. Without sight, kisser or peep all three I was able to group arrows well and even slap vanes on some by looking down arrow and putting on target. So here we go.
The Vertix
dead in hand after shot, very quite, smooth as silk draw and comfortable valley with solid back wall and decent grip. Upon reaching FD I have to bring it to the target point and level it up with grip wrist and hand, heavy! After 20 shots I was noticing the weight. Wider and bulkier than both the other bows.

Carbon RX1
Small amount of kick out and up after shot release, quite, draw is a little choppy drops hard into a short valley hits hard into stops, wants to launch feel at full draw with any forward movement, grip nice as nice as Vertix, light enough to shoot all day. Acquires target fast like as soon as you draw back it’s settled level and ready to go. I felt like I could sling arrows at target twice as fast as Vertix. Draw cycle definitely not as comfortable as Vertix
Carbon Defiant
Small kick out and up after shot, very quite, draws very smooth very close to Vertix, comfortable valley without ready to go feeling and cushioned into back wall, grip hands down for me the nicest most comfortable grip Iv ever touched, light enough to shoot all day and night, acquires target settles and ready to go at FD but just not as fast as RX1 but faster than Vertix.
My problem? Which to choose? The Vertix and RX1 are still in production the Defiant is not. The only Defiant the shop by me has or can get is in buckskin. Also the Vertix and RX1 are newer with newer technologies made into them. The Defiant is grip centered the RX1 is arrow centered. Not sure which is better for accuracy. As for comfort I feel the Defiant is a mix of the Vertix and RX1. HELP!!!

Help with MN foodplots #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Looking for some advice on what and when to plant in my central Minnesota foodplots. I have 3 smaller plots each about 1/4 of an acre.

#1. Pretty decent clover plot that I get pictures day and night of deer in. Clover is in 4th year and was getting overgrown with grass and weeds. Mowed it and then sprayed with cleth a week later. I did frost seed some red clover in it last December.

#2. Never planted on spot. Sprayed it last fall and this spring with gly. Will brush hog and mow again this week and likely hit it with one more round of gly.

#3. Old house site. Gly, mowed and sprayed in spring and will do again. Planted Brassicas last year but just did a throw and mow and didn’t expect much. Didn’t get much.

All three sites get good sun. My thought was to purchase PlotStart due to difficulty of getting lime in to these spots. Chisel plow #2 and #3 and drag for a smooth bed. My question is what and when to plant. I currently have quite a bit of ladino clover and brassicas seed. Wanting to plant for both bow and gun as well as right things for winter carry over.

Carbon Air 34 Setup help #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I just bought a pse carbon air 34. I really like the bow but have never owned a pse before.
1:As far as tuning goes will tuning be the same as it was on my halon since they are both dual cam sytems. For example will adding or removing twist to the string or cables have the same effect on the bow.
2:Also my rest needs to be really close to the riser to get a good paper or bare shaft tune are there shims that I can switch around similar to the top hats on my mathews? I would like to get my center shot closer to spec.
3: Is there any adjustablity in the cable guard? It is really close to my arrow like 1/16", or is that normal?
Thanks for any help .

XX78 Select Shafts? Help! #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve shot aluminum arrows for decades. I still shoot them from my recurves as well as my Mathews. I recently bought some NOS XX78’s for my compound. These arrived and I found they were XX78 "Select" with the different camo. I have shot XX75’s and some XX78’s, and they all either had the swaged nock end or the uni-bushing for use with Super nocks. Well today these NOS XX78 Select shafts came and I was a bit surprised that they do not have the uni-bushing in the nock end. The shaft of the nock ends are tapered down so a super nock goes directly into the shaft instead of using a uni-bushing to reduce the diameter. I’ve never seen this before, not sure how I ever missed this style of XX78 shaft. Someone school me on this style of nock end instead of a uni-bushing? Why did Easton do this? Better nock fit? Better nock alignment? Thanks in advance.

Saddle Hunter Forum HELP! #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Anyone on here a moderator or willing to contact a moderator on SaddleHunter.com for me please?!? I requested (as Acts 10:13) to join the forum over a week ago but have not been approved by a moderator. Therefore I can’t post and I especially can’t buy anything from the classifieds! I’m dying to pickup a used saddle to test out this Summer! (Especially considering there’s one for sale in the model and size that I really want to test out as I type!) I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help a brother out! Thanks in advance!

New Daypack Help – SG Avail vs MR Popup 28? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey all,

Just getting into hunting and looking at getting my first pack and a little torn between these two.

Stone Glacier Avail 2200
Mystery Ranch Pop Up 28

This pack will be for Western style hunting, only day trips to start with maybe an overnight trip once in a while after I get more experienced. I’ll be hunting mostly blacktail / mule deer and eventually target black bear / elk and some other larger species.

I like both packs for different reasons but I like the fact that I can add a frame with Stone Glacier down the road and still use the avail bag. Gives me a bit more flexibility to get a bigger frame with a shelf as well as adding a larger bag down the road if I wanted to go for longer trips.

The nice thing about the pop up is that it is already ready to convert to a load hauling frame when needed and I wouldn’t have to buy another frame down the road but i’m not sure how it compares the main guide light or the new guide light mt frames they have and If I would prefer having something like that long term.

Other than that I can’t actually see and try on either of these packs anywhere locally so I’m not sure on quality and how they fit so looking for a bit of advice for anyone that has had a chance to try either of them out.

Also if anyone has any suggestions in that $ 299 price range im open to looking at other packs.

Thanks
