When you hang a head on the wall, make sure the eyes are parallel to the floor – nothing looks worse that the eyes tilted to one side or the other.
I also vacuum my mounts twice a year. I use the brush attachment on a small shop vac and brush with the grain of the hair making sure to get inside the ears, nose etc. Dust will destroy your heads more than anything – keeping your mounts dust free will help them last a lot longer.
I also wipe them down with a rag that has been sprayed with pledge. Not soaking wet, but just damp. It helps shed the dust. Go with the grain of the hair. This gives the hair a finished, fresh look. My taxi suggested I do that – he says it won’t harm a thing.
Try and keep those heads out of direct sun from a widow. I’ve seen heads fade badly when they have been exposed to sun for long periods of time.
Anybody else have any tips on hanging or taking care of your mounts?
