First Climb and Stand Hang w/Lone Wolf Sticks and Assault Stand #archery

My sticks and stick quiver came today and I had some time to play with getting everything together and seeing how everything nested together. One I got everything in order, I took it out to a telephone pole behind the house to make a test run. I got all of this with the intention of making it a run-and-gun stand set

Rain drops were already starting to fall so I decided hanging 2 of the 4 sticks would have to do. My first impression fiddling with everything was "man, this is a lot of straps". Between my harness, lineman’s belt, straps for the sticks, and straps for the stands, there were straps everywhere. The two sticks and EZ hang hook for the stand went up easily. I climbed down, put the stand on my back, and climbed back up to hang it and it went fairly smoothly. In comparison to climbing with my LW sit n’ climb, there are definitely more moving parts with this setup and more to get used to.

So, for those of you using a similar setup using either the Assault or Alpha, is it easier to leave the straps on the stand and sticks or keep them separate in a pocket to avoid tangling and clanking of the strap cleats? I’m a stickler for avoiding the sound of metal-on-metal when setting up so I want to eliminate it where ever possible. I have seen a lot of users of this setup using some type of rubberized tape and/or parachord to prevent the metal-on-metal contact.

The standard unpadded straps that come with the stand are functional but will definitely be replaced with either padded straps or the Molle pack system but I need to look into that some more.

Any and all suggestions/tips are appreciated. I know there are also a few threads on the LW stand and stick system so I’ll be sifitng through those as well. I can definitely see the versatility in this stand and stick combo and I’m looking forward to finding the arrangement that works best for me.

Anyone rope mod a hang on stand? I think Muddy had a stand that used a rope years ago. It works well with sticks, why not a stand.

Hang on tree stand question #archery

Ok I attempted to do a search and could not find my answer. I am big guy. 6.2 at 330 lbs. I have always used my Summit climbing stand or home built stands. I really only hunt public land and got sick and tired of getting my stuff stolen. But now I was lucky enough to get on pvt land that has not been hunted in like 10 years. I know this to be true I work in the town where the property is located. This place has some real hawgs on it!

I am gonna get a hang on type stand what is a good one for a big guy? I looked at XOP, and LW but they don’t look very comfortable. I don’t have a dealer close and can’t sit and test drive. Thanks

PS no Jenny Craig crap please, I am on a 12 step program to ward off donuts…. 😉

Koz

Hang On Recommendations: Millennium, Family Traditions, something else? #archery

Tried searching the forum but couldn’t find anything recent. Looking for some hang on stands to place and leave. I love my climber and am not looking to replace it for mobile options, so I could care less about how much it weighs or how well it packs. The locations I have in mind will likely be spots where I will potentially sit all day so I’m more interested in comfort and quiet than anything else (safety being a given).
I’m a big guy and prefer a roomy platform. The Millennium M50 looks like a possibility and the Family Traditions stands might work also. What others should I be considering?

I’ve always climbed with a climber so I was limited to straight trees. I am adding mobile Hang On and Sticks this year. Do you still have to set up on relatively straight trees with a main trunk going up to hunting height? I’m wondering about safety and a linemans belt when dealing with multiple branches.

What type trees y’all climb with a mobile Hang On.

Hang on/sticks for big guy

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey guys, I’m 6’5" 315# and starting the prep for a more than likely DIY whitetail hunt out of state next year and looking into options other than my climber. I can’t see hauling a ladder stand around and the ground could always be an option (and i know losing weight should be the main goal lol).

Are there any hang ons and sticks rated for more than 300# ?

When to hang stands? Just need some advice on a public hunt.

Ok I’m going for a weekend hunt, public quota, zero pressure, next weekend. Heading there early Friday AM to set camp, shoot 3D, and relax before Saturday AM when hunt begins. I’m in Florida and its steaming hot so I’m a little worried about scent.

When would it be best to hang our stands?

I can go in a few days early, before we camp and do it.

Or I can hang them that Friday when we go in to set up camp.

I’m just worried about stinking up the area, and the commotion the day before the hunt.
Remember it’s 90* out, were stinky and sweaty. We’re hanging lock ons in twisted oaks, a little tricky.

what do you all think?
