Figured I’d start a thread for the new season.

This thread is for everything: Still-hunting/Spot-n-Stalk/Natural ground blind hunting related.

Here’s a few threads from the past about the topic!

This year is finally going to be my first season seriously attempting to still hunt, and hunt with a ghille suit. I know I’m going to make mistakes, and I’ll be looking for advice along the way! I grew up hunting on the ground back in the 90′s. mostly natural ground blinds, and some still hunting. I recently sold my last treestand, Just so there would be NO temptation of tree hunting! I also recently purchased a recurve crossbow, so I can also lay prone in mountain laurel patches along some travel corridors. I hunt 10,000 acres of public land. I grew up hunting these woods. These are the type of hardwoods that if you see a deer, you’ev had an awesome day! to put it into perspective, last year I didn’t see a single deer in a hunting situation. It’s a very rough go. I DO know how to hunt, however this is completely normal for these woods. there ARE deer there, and big bucks too. Archery season has very little pressure. In the 90′s there was always a small group of people bowhunting it.

I’m also looking at getting this bad Larry, but I have a sever case of sticker shock right now!

Talk about being able to hunt anywhere!

I also have been a HUGE fan of G. Fred Asbell’s book:

Over the years I have practiced his "woods walking" technique when i go near bedding areas.

This book is ok…not that great

Anyways, just looking forward to my still hunt this friday afternoon!

Wyoming Antelope DIY Public ground #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Going to head to Wyoming this fall with a rifle to chase some speed goats. I know its not bow related but lots of hunters on here. Have 0 pref points – I know this makes some things more difficult. Has anyone hunted Units 1-4 ? We will be younger mostly in shape guys , but I dont really want to walk 10 miles and kill one then worry about having to get it out . Any advice, got good glass, good boots, and rifles with good glass. Mostly concerned with road access to the public units. I dont want to book a unit then cant get to any of the public to hunt because its land locked. Any help or past experiences would be great.

Turkeys and Ground Blinds #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’ve seen guys say turkeys don’t care about ground blinds. No need to have them brushed in. But if I just pop one up, they aren’t going to be concerned with it?

I’m hunting these turkeys in the mountains. Lots of ridges, hollows, etc. But there’s one spot we tend to get turkeys on camera almost every day. So if the blind isn’t there one day, then it’s there the next…the turkeys won’t be bothered by it?

Good COMFORTABLE Chair For Ground Blind

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Can anyone recommend a comfortable cozy chair that is portable enough for a ground blind? Does not have to be camo or anything like that, black is preferred actually. I have the dog house ground blind and am love it this season, however the stool I have with full 360 spin is just not doing it for me. My biggest issue with any hunt is being uncomfortable, which is happening so much that is discourages me from going out some days. I would love something quite, portable, and of course…COMFY! lol

Shooting from a ground blind tips?

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Today was the first day I set up my blind and shot from it. First time ever I sat in the seated position. I was only shooting about 22 yards, I wont have a further shot where I hunt, though Ill probably zero in my 30yd pin at some point.

Groups were OK for my first time and honestly I haven’t shot in about 7 years until a couple of weeks ago. I would normally group today 4 within about 4" and one outlier maybe 6". I attribute this to not going through my routine.

Just looking for tips you all may have for shooting from a seated position from a ground blind. Oh and one thing I noticed, the bow is much louder in the blind.

Thanks!
