Good Starter Bow? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hi all!

New here and looking to get my first bow. Im an older guy just started late. Was wondering what you guys think would be a great starter bow that is good enough that I wont have to buy another bow when I get more familiar with the sport? Also, what are the must have accessories? Sorry if this has been asked a 1000 times, I figured I would post instead of search to help get my posts up so I can buy a bow off this site. Thanks in advance for any replies!

bareshaft tuning… keep tweaking or call it good? #archery

Alright first off my setup:

Mathews TX-5, if your not familiar with this bow, it’s basically a Triax on Crack. 28" ATA, 5" brace, the IBO is based on a 29" draw at 345, but it was a few FPS faster than my PSE expedite (IBO 352 with 90% mods) with same specs/ arrows so I usually put 355 into the calculators.

60# limbs maxed out to 61.6#
27" mods, actual draw is probably closer to 27.25"

Shooting Easton Axis with the full camo wrap and blazers 11.4 gr/in

300 spine
28" long
100 gr. Ethics Archery Inserts
125gr. Field point
total arrow weight 575
16%+ FOC
calculated at about 250 fps.

at 20 yards, bareshafts are impacting maybe an inch high, slight nock low position, many times when shooting yesterday the bareshaft landed inside of a group of 2-3 arrows at 20.

at 30 yards, bareshafts are impacting about 5" high with a nock low position.

My rest is about bottomed out in it’s adjustment (straight through berger hole), nock is about 1/16" high. I did try moving the rest up and it exaggerated the bareshaft misses, so the bow is responding appropriately.

This bow/ setup is going to be a hunting rig mostly shot at ranges 20-25 yards, never over 30 on a critter. I do practice out to 50 or 60 just for giggles.

Would you start twisting cables/ moving the nock point around? or would you leave well enough alone?

How good are Meopta Binos? #archery

I’ve had some say that they are in the top echelon of European glass. Wondering what kind of experiences others have had.

First good arrows? #archery

Am I going overboard buying something like Easton Superdrive arrows for my first set of high quality arrows? I’ve never built or shot anything with a nock insert.
I currently shoot Easton Powerflights and some Beman’s that came with my bow. Also, I only shoot target, but would like to get into 3D

Looking for some advice on a good, relatively inexpensive, mid-layer #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Alright guys, I need some help finding a good mid-layer for my system. This is going to hopefully be an outer during early season (with a Stratus vest on top for windy days), and then I’ll layer it up as the season progresses until it finally finds its place as a true mid-layer. I’ve got a cheap Academy fleece that’s actually really warm that I’d use for this but it’s to big for me. Here’s what I’ve got so far:

-FL Wick 150 Baselayer
-Core Heavyweight 1/4 Zip
-Mid-Layer that I’m looking for here
-Straus Vest or Jacket

Things that I’m looking for are full zip, and no hood if I can help it. Other than that, I’m open to options.

I’ve been looking at the two below and I’m thinking I can just pick up any inexpensive fleece to fill this spot but I wanted to see if you guys knew of anything else that might work better.

Let me know what you think and thanks for the help!

2019 Petersen’s Bowhunting has some good product insight #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Can’t believe this but there is some serious inside looks and glances at gear that has been largely overlooked in the new Petersen’s Bowhunting mag. Usually the mags are several months behind on info but the new 2019 gear addition has some pretty good sneak peaked, including the unreleased (until now) FL sweater.
Highly recommend you pick up a copy.

How good of a hunting BUDDY are you? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

So here’s the story I’ve got a guy who works for me, is a friend outside work, and my hunting BUDDY. We hunt on my cousins farm who doesn’t hunt. This is our second year on this farm and we have things going the right direction. My buddy has put in time and sweat to help hang stands and till food plots. We have a pretty nice buck walking past both our stand locations in daylight hours. He killed his first deer last season and I’ve killed many in over 25 years hunting. The deer comes by my stand twice a day within 20 yards. Would you be a buddy and pass on that deer to let your friend take a good one?
