I am surprised I have not see a thread on IBO shoot going on. Has the IBO become unpopular or is there no internet access in the area.

Couple questions from the New Guy

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hello Everyone,

Just wanted to say "Hi" and ask a couple of questions of you folks. I recently began shooting again after my wife scheduled a day shooing for the family a few weeks back. I had shot a lot in my youth, but it’s been literally decades, so after getting hooked again I consider myself a complete newb.

I purchased a parker sidekick xp. I have some left arm problem, and could lower the pull weight for this bow to a level that I could handle (I am hoping the exercise will help with the elbow and should problems I have). The price was also so good (clearance) that I was able to purchase arrows, a release, and backstop for less than the PSE and Hoyt bows I was looking at. For where I am at now I hope I made a good decision.

I have a couple of question I was hoping to get answered. One, the sight. I’ve been adjusting it, and now I have it set to the extreme bottom and extreme left positions. And it still needs slight adjusting. From my experience with rifle shooting, I am guessing that this may be a posture issue? Does anyone have a suggestion as to what I am going wrong?

Secondly, I had been having some trouble with the peep sight, and not getting good alignment. I had been reviewing "Nuts and Bolts of Archery", and attempting to replicate the draw and posture I saw there. However, when I did this, suddenly the Cable guard relaxed and drawstring from it was in my line of sight. Do I have to make draw length adjustments?

Thank you for you time, and I look forward to your answers.

Milo

Imperial by Omega, from unfinished bow to launching arrows

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I received my new Imperial from Kegan yesterday afternoon. The bow was in unfinished condition. Red Oak riser, hickory laminations, black glass. 42#@30". Its shooting about 41# at my DL. Put a string on it at the club with Kegan, braced at about 6" it put an untuned 415g arrow through the chrono at 185 fps. So, basically an arrow slightly over 10gpp was getting really good speed.

I am going to chronicle how I take Kegan’s unfinished bows…. and finish them. Kegan offers the option of purchasing the bow unfinished. Basically, it is sanded pretty smooth but needs a finished sanding, then prepped for stain and a clear coat. As I acquire more than my fair share of Omega’s, I save Kegan the task of finishing the bow. Plus this is a good time to customize the grip if you choose to do so.

Here’e what I’m starting with:

More to follow when I get some time.:darkbeer:

nock to serving lets here it from everyone

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I have heard mixed ideas about the knock on the string/serving. I have usually liked mine where it would slide up and down and spin around the serving but not wobble back and forth much.
The string on this bow I just picked up is a tight fit nock to string/serving. Its just in my head its not right to be so tight. I am shooting g nocks.
any one thing it matters or tight/loose is better. I don’t have nock pinch because I tie in top and bottom nock sets.
What do you think?

Wooden Arrows – My quest from God!

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Hey guys,

I’ve talked to a few about this now and am never really getting to the bottom of this. I want to be able to make my own wooden arrow shafts. I don’t want to buy wooden arrow shafts from some archery company and simply apply the rest. However I can’t ever find a lot on actually creating the arrow shafts. I understand that arrows must have straight grain that runs throughout the arrrow. I understand about the different diameters, spines, and weights. I’ve read about the more popular woods that are used for arrow making.

A lot of the professional archery shops that have videos online give wonderful virtual tours and talk about arrow making from start to finish. However, they all usually say that they import the arrow shafts and then sort them according to spine and weight. I’m curious as to who actually makes all these shafts for these archery shops. I want to see the MAKING of the arrow shafts and understand what I have to do to acquire my own shafts. Somebody is doing it.

I’m sure it probably starts with cutting down a tree, but then there is questions like

1. "which part of the tree is suitable for arrow shafts?"
2. "is there some technique for cutting the arrow shafts from the tree?"
3. "could one simply just by lumber and use the straight grain parts for arrow shafts?"

There’s a lot more questions I have but cannot find enough knowledge on this subject to even ask an appropriate question I feel. I’m extremely frustrated.

One more thing……I ordered the Veritas Dowel Maker from Lee Valley along with their "inserts for Arrow Making", but i’m starting to become worried about what wood I should be using along with their product.

My mission is simply this…..I want to make my own shafts!

Thankyou so much everyone,
-WooDy

Just recieved a set of strings from a custom stringmaker today… (concerns)

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

and I was wondering if this was of any particular issue or not, it seems some of the string (silver) is popped thru the black serving at outer edge of one of the end loops, I’m wasn’t sure if this is purely cosmetic at this point or could cause potential issue later on. The maker said it a "gap in the tag end and not really of issue", but since I’m not very knowledgeable when it comes to strings I wanted a second opinion and not even sure what a "Tag end" is for that matter, thank you. :)

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Anyone have any suggestions for removing camo dip from a riser? Like a chemical stripper or sandblasting or just using sandpaper ?

Thanks in advance.
