Hunting from the ground with NO blind #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve acquired a leafy suit and going to attempt to hunt a particular spot that is tucked perfectly between bedding that leads to food and water. It essentially sits on a point of thick cover that abuts a major travel route. It’s an absolute deer highway right now, and I’ve convinced the local farmer to leave several rows of the standing corn just for this setup (it’s usually a soy bean field).

However, there is no suitable tree for a stand, and deer on my place absolutely HATE blinds, even well brushed in ones. So I’m curious what the board has to say about hunting from the ground with no blind. Tips or tricks? Pics of particular setups anyone?

ETA: Here’s a rough sketch of the spot… Highlighted/red "X" area is where I’d be. Bedding to west and southwest. Standing corn in field with drainage ditch down center and creek to the east. There is a break in the corn that’s about a 30 yard opening right in that corner giving ample opportunity for a shot.

Got this buck on camera in the same spot as last year. Was kinda hoping he would of put on some better gains from last year. I know he’s not all the way done growing yet. But looks pretty similar to last year. Think he put on a little mass and a inch or so in width. Decent buck nonetheless.

Hurt collar bone from shooting bow #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Has anyone had issues with their collar bone from shooting their bow? Months ago I started having issues with pain in my right upper chest (pectoral muscle) while shooting my bow. After a few shots it wouldn’t hurt as bad and I would continue shooting. At rest I would have pains from time to time but not real bad. It kept getting worse so I stopped shooting. I then noticed my collar bone was swollen from shoulder to my breast bone. Icing it reduced the swelling. I found out that the collar bone supports the shoulder while shooting.
So I thought I would post here to see if anyone else has had this problem.

It’s great to see how little waste is produced making all of our great Doinker and Precision Balance products. The one area of making the stabilizers that produces the most waste, machining metal parts….. it is all 100% recycled. We even drain the chips of cutting oil to reuse it in our machines. When you buy Doinker products, you are not only buying a great product that works as it’s designed to but you are supporting a 27 Year Old American Company with employees that not only care about the products and customers, but also how they are made.

Doinker Stabilizers and it’s sister companies, Precision Balance Stabilizers, Karbon Krafters are all Designed, Manufactured, Assembled, Packaged and Shipped in the USA by a handful of hardworking people.

Getting from sticks to the stand? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

So when I was younger and wirey I had no issue setting sticks or steps as high as I could then hugging the tree to get into the stand which I placed above my last stick. Now that I’m older and wiser and don’t bounce like I used to, I always want a good handhold or two to get into my stand. There are some trees where I want to be as high as I can be and don’t want to carry an extra stick. Anyone come up with something different to help get into the stand?

I use lifelines so was thinking about maybe some kind of aider tied to the prusik knot or on the beaner.

I tried to us a [spoiler] code to hide this image unless clicked on cuz I don’t know the rules about possible graphic images, but didn’t work. also I photoshopped it a bit to pop the colors.

Where to begin…

Really, I just want to understand what happened. I can’t stop anyone from giving me a lecture on me being a dumbass, but not necessary, already know that.

So I’m home pulling back my Diamond Edge SB-1 and the string(buss cable) on the top cam slips under the draw stop. When I go to let down the string, there’s a major stall, slack, then the tension kicks in and the stop slips out and the string is let down. Weird, kinda scary, no incident.

I take a look in the vice and notice there was a much larger gap between the buss string and the cam on the top. I “fixed” this by sliding out the cable slide and putting it in the opposite way. The slide has a shorter and longer protruding point so putting the buss strings back in placed each string near flush to both cams, allowing the stop to perform as it should.

Now you’re probably thinking, “wat da hell kid, you’re outta your league take it to the tech!” And you’re right. On the schedule.

So I’m at Academy and decide to take a look at their SB-1 and just look how it’s supposed to be set up. I draw back and……THE EXACT THING HAPPENS.

Except this time letting down the string does not release the buss cable tension, the draw stop has LOCKED in there. holding a bomb.

Don’t know about all Academy Sports but this one eliminated their archery tech/range (range is now storage).

So I’m in this weird situation, asking the girl “who knows what to do? is there a bow press.” “er uh gee Mr. we don’t have bow techs.” People start to gather, I have a guy hold the string tension with a safety release while I use a pair of thick pants folded three times to see if I can get that cable out of the stop (STUPID I KNOW). But doesn’t budge.

The string is off the cams so we take it off completely. And with the pants I push the top cam and….FWWACKKKK!!!!! ok, bomb defused, pants apparently got shifted and cam sliced an inch, pretty deep, cut.

Again, I am a dumbass, but in the moment, no one knew **** and my ego was saying, “ok it’s up to you batman!!” Idiot. Should have left if there, NOT my problem.

So a few things. In that situation, assuming a tech was around, what should have been done?

Also, on mine, is reversing the cable slide stupid?

Obviously this is a Dimond Edge SB-1 MAJOR defect. Plan on calling them.

I do think the incident at the store, the bow was several inches shorter than my draw length, plus much lighter poundage so I think I drew too strong/long and pulled that cable through the stop BUT regardless, that should not have happened.

Besides being pissed at myself, I was really pissed at Academy for being allowed let people TOUCH a bow without a certified bow tech present. Sell them? Ok. Maybe. But without a bow press, a tech, or hell, someone that knows ANYTHING about bows, letting someone draw a bow is insane, man. Amiright?

I don’t even know where this thread is going but maybe just some constructive thoughts. Or even lay into me. Probably deserve it.

But the hand is fine. day 2 doesn’t even hurt, the staff was friendly and patched me up enough for me to get home to my own kit. Butterflies, New Skin, etc.
