Choosing First Bow #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Hey guys I’m new to the group and fairly new to Bow Hunting. I have shot a few different bows in the past year or two and I’m somewhat proficient with my archery skills as of now. I have a old York Bushwhacker set to 60# at around 29" draw length, I’m looking to upgrade and buy the bow I plan to use hunting next season. I have looked around at several manufacturers and several different bows from each. I’m on the fence between the PSE STINGER or the BEAR SPECIES. I would really like to get a bow that is highly adjustable as far as draw weight and draw length so that I can pass it down to my son and he can grow with it as he gets older. I myself sit comfortable with 60# of draw around a 28-29" draw. I would appreciate any input and advise you guys have.

First deer with a bow #archery

I am pretty excited about this! I just shot my first deer with a bow last night. It is a spike, nothing super special, but it is going to eat just fine. It was way more exciting than shooting a deer with a rifle, wow, way more exciting. Talk about up close and personal! Backstraps and heart are in the fridge ready for dinner tomorrow night.

I spotted him first at about 50 yards. He looked up at me when he was at 40. Stared at me for what seemed like 5 minutes. I was in my full UA forest camo, standing on my X-Stand hang-on. Finally convinced himself things were alright and continued grazing on the acorns for a minute or two. I picked up my bow from the Third Hand Archery holder, and he looked up at me again. Was able to get the bow up and ready to draw while he was behind a big oak tree. Drew back while I had a chance. When he got to 21 yards, and into a small clearing from limbs and tree trunks, he looked up again, right at me. As soon as he dropped his head, I let one fly. I was holding the 80% letoff from my Xpedition Xcentric for only a minute or a half, but seemed like a lot longer. Arrow thumped, and he jumped.

The Iron Will S125 performed perfectly! Upper lung shot, the deer was facing me slightly. The arrow hit a little high, but went through the lungs and exited opposite side behind the rib cage. Buck only ran 40 yards after the 21 yard shot and fell dead. Was nice to see exactly where he went down from the stand. I was a little over a mile and a half into a Federal wildlife refuge, so I did call for some help dragging the buck to my truck. It was a late night, but worth it. I think next year, I am going to do some more scouting a little deeper into that refuge. I know there are some much nicer bucks back there.

Second to last pic is entry, last pic is exit.

Hi everybody,

Im new in this amazing world of archery and I have some doubts, maybe you can help me, first, bow components

Riser: Ragim Red Lion, ILF system 19"
Lambs: SF Archery Elite Fibra Foam 70"@28lb
String: Fast flight 24"

First problem,
No idea which is the best brace height, I have been testing between 7,50 to 9 and no good results, any indication ?

Second problem (related to the first one probably)
On release the string it slaps my bow hand wrist (close to the thumb) and also the riser. (photo attached)

Other points: When I was doing the initiation course and on buying the bow on the store they said to me my draw length was around 32

Thanks!

To First Lite or Not #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve been wanting to upgrade my hunting clothes especially late season. I own and have used a Warmbag. And while it’s kept me warm, I just don’t like using it. I’ve tried on the Sitka Incinerator jacket and didn’t like the tight fit in the arms. So I spoke with the guys at First Lite and asked them what gear I’d need to be warm and comfortable hunting late season here in NJ; weather can go as low as 0°F. They suggested the following:

Furnace top and bottom
Klamath top
Obsidian pants
Sanctuary jacket and bibs

Anyone have any input on this setup? Is it worth the large investment in $ $ $ to go this route? I’d appreciate any input you have.

David

New to Archery/Bowhunting. Deciding on first bow #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

NewUserPost#1

Hey all. New account, longtime reader. New to this world and have done quite a bit of research towards bows, bow hunting, and brands to purchase. Would like you guys’s help in deciding on my first bow. I intend to take this from practice to field (spot and stalk) and as such, am leaning towards the more adjustable and affordable models. Ideally,
– Newbie friendly, high letoff
– Decent IBO speed
– Compact
– Lightweight
– Highly adjustable
– Not educated enough to prefer single or binary cams yet
– Good for training proper form while also hunting Texas game
– ~$ 400usd

Have checked a few archery stores, though was not able to shoot many different bows (LH due to eye dominance) Through research and talks with the store techs, I’ve come to appreciate the PSE, Diamond, and Mission by Mathews brands. To name models, PSE stinger X, Diamond SB-1, Mission Craze 2. Plan to buy used. I was measured at 27-28 inch draw and I’m wishing to work up to a 60 lb pull. Any advice or help on which to pick or similar bows that maybe what I’m looking for, would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for reading/sharing!

I’m looking into a higher tier hunting clothing. I keep going back to first lite. I want clothing to cover early season bow hunts plum through early elk late mule deer and spring turkey. My question is is this stuff worth the money and as good as advertised.

Help Me Build My First Non-Hunting Setup #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve loved archery for a long time, and I figure after 30 years I’ll actually branch out from practice and hunting to punch some paper and foam. In that vein I just ordered my first more "targetish" and first non-Mathews bow in 20 years…. a Bowtech Reckoning. I’m going to see if I can find a spot league for this winter to try my hand at indoor, which I’ve never done before. I shot a lot of 3d in high school, but as a traditional shooter. I’ve shot some random ones since, but nothing consistent and just used my primary hunting bow. I am really wanting to make it a regular thing now, and want to build a bow tailored more to that.

I’ve got a rest picked out, Hamskea Trinity Pro… have the hybrid hunter on my Vertix and love it.

For a peep was going to go with the 1/4 Specialty archery peep with several apertures.

I’m unsure of stabilizers, for ASA I’ll be shooting bow novice so a tad limited there. However, I would like to shoot some spots this winter…. so kinda torn on where to start.

Then the sight… torn here also. I’m considering: Spot Hogg Hogg Father, Axcel Accutouch, and CBE Vertex.

The SH is tough as nails doubles as durable enough for hunting, can accommodate multiple scopes, and has the ability to click between marks (micro elevation). The Axcel accepts multiple scopes, also tough, but doesn’t have clicks for micro elevation adjustments. The Vertex is a pure target sight, but also more expensive up front, and I’d probably never haul it hunting in a pinch.

I like my SH, but they are heavy, and I’m building this bow for long bomb shooting… and that weight extended out and high on the riser seems less than ideal, and there the Axcel has the advantage. What the Axcel lacks… is the ability to do clicks of elevation.

… for release, just sticking with what I shoot now, Carter Evolution +…

So for those of you that have done the above activities for a while, any thoughts on the gear I’m contemplating or have suggestions for anything I may not have considered?

going to hunt elk for first time! #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’m asking for some info here. As stated I’m going to Colorado from Sept 14 to the 29 for elk. We will be sleeping in a wall tent. I need to get a sleeping bag and a pad to sleep on. My question is how much do I need to spend? I would like to spend as little as possible but I do indeed want to be warm Does anyone have any recommendations for me? Honestly looking on the internet has been overwhelming. I’m just not sure what I need. By the way Im what you call a cold sleeper. As in I’m usually freezing at home in my bed. I definitely want to error on being too warm. Afraid to make a purchase and then find out when its too late I should have went better or at least warmer. Thanks in advance!
