First release – Carter Evo & Sensation? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

I’ve been doing a huge amount of research, searching on AT, google searching and reading articles, watching videos on YouTube etc. I’ve just ordered my first bow (it’s a compound), and I’m trying to decide what release I am going to start with.

What I’ve learned most is that releases are a very personal thing.

After a lot of thought I think I might be best starting with some kind of back tension type release rather than a trigger release even though it will be more difficult. I assume it would be easier to learn now than possibly getting into some bad habits.

So my intention is to hunt eventually (Once I’m consistent and confident that I can make a good ethical shot. It would be mostly pigs and goats, a few rabbits perhaps, and if I can find somewhere to hunt them, some deer too eventually.

The idea I have at the moment is to get a release like the Carter Evolution, and when I’ve got it worked out and am shooting it consistently well at targets to then buy a Carter Sensation and practice with both, and then hunt with the Sensation since it sounds like a thumb trigger might be the more preferred option for hunting out of the two releases.

The reason for the Sensation is because my hunting will be spot and stalk so the release won’t just be clipped and hanging from a stationary bow as it might be in a blind or tree stand. I figure the open hook style would be more practical.

Does this make sense to those of you that are experienced? Given the price of releases I’d prefer to not make stupid decisions. I think the shop I go to carries both, so I can hopefully see if they fit my hand well before buying.

Look forward to hearing all your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Chinese rage result – first time using #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Shot a down last night at 24 yds. She was slightly quartered to and I put it in there perfect getting a piece of both lungs. She didn’t go far. That’s the good part. The broadhead did its job. But……the head was destroyed. Blades gone, screw gone. Entire head bent. Here is a picture. I know, I know, "the broadhead did its job." Yes it did, but what if I hit a rib next time? Or anything hard? I’m done with these.

Looking for Advice on first Turkey trip to Nebraska #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

Planning on making my first trip to Nebraska this spring. As of now my plan is somewhere around the 2nd week of May. I’ve been planning this trip for 10 months now and to be honest I’m just as lost at when I first started planning. I’m not looking for anyone’s honey hole or secret spots, but if anyone has a general direction they would recommend going I’d appreciate any and all info. Also what can I expect out there that time of year? I’m use to hunting Missouri and expect it will be quite a bit different… Thanks for any and all help in Advance!

Purchased some new hunting property, Need help on where to scout first? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies on Amazon.com

All,
I purchased a house with some property(120 acres). I know I can get out there and hoof it all over the property and look for sign, which I will do eventually but I figured what the heck some of you might be better at this than me so here is a topo map of the property and a satellite view. Where would you scout first? In the satellite view I have colored some blue areas. On the lower left side you have a stream (shallow maybe a few inches deep and only a couple feet wide) which runs North/south (the pictures are orientated with North being the top). That stream actually runs into a small pond maybe 10ft in diameter and 6 feet deep. The area that has blue speckles on the left side represents more of a swamp and im betting deer definitely hide in there. Near the top of the map you will see another speckled area which again this is another swampy area. This area is also drastically up a steep hill as you can tell by the attached topo map. I don’t think the deer travel up that hill too much judging from my preliminary scouting but I could be wrong. I was only in there one time and didn’t see much sign but really didn’t look much. If you want to screen shot my pictures and mark places of interest feel free! Thanks!House Topo Map.jpgShowing Water features.jpg
