Hey All,
Simply put, a few of us are gathering information to hunt in Ohio this year. We’re from Western NY and it’ll be our first Ohio trip. Planning stages are obviously pretty raw, but of course we’re trying to plan to the best of our ability (even in May!). We’re open to most areas, concentrated a bit on the AEP land West of Caldwell and a few other state forests. We dont need your pins of cooridantes, just looking for friendly advice on what would hopefully be a solid hunt. Of course we’d love to find some private ground but the odds aren’t feasible. A point in the right direction would be more than appreciated!
Thanks All,
Nate

I’ve been into archery now for about 13 months. I’m on my third bow and my 6th sight (first 5 were in the $ 75-$ 150 range). The Spot Hogg Grinder 5-Pin Micro is by far the biggest component upgrade I’ve made. I was hesitant on spending $ 240 on a new sight, but after reading all of the positive reviews and learning that SH offers a lifetime warranty I went ahead and bit the bullet. This thing is bright, HEAVY DUTY AF, and good looking. I also find the MRT has helping with my accuracy. I was lining my peep up with the bottom and right side of my sight housing which made for a pretty accurate shot, but being able to see that bright yellow ring in multiple sizes helps with consistent alignment.
Anyone else share a similar experience? Holding off on making a pricy upgrade and then wishing you’d done it from the get go?
This Spot Hogg sight and my Carter release are the two things I wish I had pulled the trigger on from the start.

I found a few other threads on this but they are older. I’m feeling kind of lucky, it was my first time applying in New Mexico and was able to draw the tag. Once in a lifetime for me. I really am having a hard time deciding if I want to hire a guide …..as I have never done this and always DIY my own hunts. With that said never setting foot in this area has me wondering if it worth the money or not?
If you have any advice I would appreciate it, If you send me a PM to keep your info off the thread I would respect that 100%.
Im set up with a camper if needed, I have a Wall Tent, Atv, Spike Camp. My Elk calling is average if not a bit above. I have my little brother who is also going to help with calling on this hunt.
Thanks in Advance!

I’m in the market for a new pair of pants. I prefer a tan color as opposed to a camo pattern. Does anybody have experience with any of these? I like the idea of the knee pads in the mountain pant but like the price of the corrugate pants. Does anybody know the difference between the mountain and grinder pant?
Thanks for your time

I made contact with the first deer of the 2020 season. Got a good solid broadside hit on a doe this morning. I was disappointed in the Buicks performance. I got zero penetration and no blood trail. I am thinking I need to increase my feet per second to get better results. 58.6 feet per second/40 mph wasn’t enough. I could also put more weight up front to increase the FOC.
(I had dodged this same deer 4 times in the same spot this winter. Today her and I finally made contact. After the impact the deer was nowhere to be found).

Hey guys I’m new to the group and fairly new to Bow Hunting. I have shot a few different bows in the past year or two and I’m somewhat proficient with my archery skills as of now. I have a old York Bushwhacker set to 60# at around 29" draw length, I’m looking to upgrade and buy the bow I plan to use hunting next season. I have looked around at several manufacturers and several different bows from each. I’m on the fence between the PSE STINGER or the BEAR SPECIES. I would really like to get a bow that is highly adjustable as far as draw weight and draw length so that I can pass it down to my son and he can grow with it as he gets older. I myself sit comfortable with 60# of draw around a 28-29" draw. I would appreciate any input and advise you guys have.
