First Climb and Stand Hang w/Lone Wolf Sticks and Assault Stand #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

My sticks and stick quiver came today and I had some time to play with getting everything together and seeing how everything nested together. One I got everything in order, I took it out to a telephone pole behind the house to make a test run. I got all of this with the intention of making it a run-and-gun stand set

Rain drops were already starting to fall so I decided hanging 2 of the 4 sticks would have to do. My first impression fiddling with everything was "man, this is a lot of straps". Between my harness, lineman’s belt, straps for the sticks, and straps for the stands, there were straps everywhere. The two sticks and EZ hang hook for the stand went up easily. I climbed down, put the stand on my back, and climbed back up to hang it and it went fairly smoothly. In comparison to climbing with my LW sit n’ climb, there are definitely more moving parts with this setup and more to get used to.

So, for those of you using a similar setup using either the Assault or Alpha, is it easier to leave the straps on the stand and sticks or keep them separate in a pocket to avoid tangling and clanking of the strap cleats? I’m a stickler for avoiding the sound of metal-on-metal when setting up so I want to eliminate it where ever possible. I have seen a lot of users of this setup using some type of rubberized tape and/or parachord to prevent the metal-on-metal contact.

The standard unpadded straps that come with the stand are functional but will definitely be replaced with either padded straps or the Molle pack system but I need to look into that some more.

Any and all suggestions/tips are appreciated. I know there are also a few threads on the LW stand and stick system so I’ll be sifitng through those as well. I can definitely see the versatility in this stand and stick combo and I’m looking forward to finding the arrangement that works best for me.

First one of the year! #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Took one of my daughters turkey hunting here in Missouri for the first time yesterday. It was my first chance to turkey hunt this year too. Took much longer than we wanted but it all worked out and she did good sticking it out. Didn’t kill him until noon. I had a great time with her and she got to see some good action.

My Wife’s first deer #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

So this year I bought my wife a Hoyt Vixcen and let her deck it out in her favorite colors. Made her practice all summer Long and got her pumped up for the coming deer season. Well finally we got her a deer on the Saturday of the Ohio shotgun season but she chose to take a bow with her instead of a gun. A couple deer walked in to 28 yards and She actually clipped the artery in the back of the deer just below the spine. She was so happy and shaking that she didn’t hear me tell her the big 8 was walking right at us. He got within 10 yards from the tree but she never got a clear shot and he turned and walked out of range and stood until after dark. Needless to say she called dibs on that deer and is completely hooked. So proud of her!

Shooting a scope for the first time #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I just bought an AX3000 with a 4x CBE scope. I’ve never shot one before last night, where I shot a 360 round. Obviously more practice will come, but are there any threads here (the search function is so garbage I gave up trying) that detail any tips/steps for shooting a scope compared to fixed pins?

I have noticed that head position is much more critical. I also noticed that as I moved from the left side of the 5 spot to the right, my groupings moved from the left edge of the X to more center. I don’t know if this is head position, body position, seeing more of the X etc.

Any advice or links to old threads very much appreciated.

First release – Carter Evo & Sensation? #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

I’ve been doing a huge amount of research, searching on AT, google searching and reading articles, watching videos on YouTube etc. I’ve just ordered my first bow (it’s a compound), and I’m trying to decide what release I am going to start with.

What I’ve learned most is that releases are a very personal thing.

After a lot of thought I think I might be best starting with some kind of back tension type release rather than a trigger release even though it will be more difficult. I assume it would be easier to learn now than possibly getting into some bad habits.

So my intention is to hunt eventually (Once I’m consistent and confident that I can make a good ethical shot. It would be mostly pigs and goats, a few rabbits perhaps, and if I can find somewhere to hunt them, some deer too eventually.

The idea I have at the moment is to get a release like the Carter Evolution, and when I’ve got it worked out and am shooting it consistently well at targets to then buy a Carter Sensation and practice with both, and then hunt with the Sensation since it sounds like a thumb trigger might be the more preferred option for hunting out of the two releases.

The reason for the Sensation is because my hunting will be spot and stalk so the release won’t just be clipped and hanging from a stationary bow as it might be in a blind or tree stand. I figure the open hook style would be more practical.

Does this make sense to those of you that are experienced? Given the price of releases I’d prefer to not make stupid decisions. I think the shop I go to carries both, so I can hopefully see if they fit my hand well before buying.

Look forward to hearing all your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

Chinese rage result – first time using #archery

Discount Prices on Archery Supplies Right Here

Shot a down last night at 24 yds. She was slightly quartered to and I put it in there perfect getting a piece of both lungs. She didn’t go far. That’s the good part. The broadhead did its job. But……the head was destroyed. Blades gone, screw gone. Entire head bent. Here is a picture. I know, I know, "the broadhead did its job." Yes it did, but what if I hit a rib next time? Or anything hard? I’m done with these.
